This 1350 H.P.
EMD loco was first built in 1939. They were originally designed to
be semipermanently MUed to a B unit with a draw-bar. Later, many were
retrofitted with regular couplers. 1096 FTs were built from 1939 to
1945.
While this loco is not DCC ready, installing a decoder is extremely easy. As you can see at right, there is a well, where a light board resided, where the decoder fits nicely. The two screws that held the light board in make an easy place to connect decoder power wires. A 560-ohm resistor was used with the small ultra-bright white LED front light. |

While an N-scale size decoder
could be shoe-horned into the available space, it's much easier to
install one of the new Z-scale decoders. Below are all the decoders
we stock that are suitable for this installation. For more about these
decoders, refer to the Decoder
section. |

There is no room in this loco
for a sound unit and speaker. If one is desired, we suggest mounting
a suitable sound unit in a freight car to tow behind the loco. |
