lt's coming on 2 years now since the track plan went from a vision, to paper, and then into reality. I spent considerable time envisioning what my f
irst layout would look like, how it would be built, and what it would be like finally running the trains. After many hours of enjoyable effort, running the trains became a reality. Scenery began to sprout up and mountains took shape. Operating multiple trains with my grandsons or friends was fun and a challenge.

Catching up!

I know, I skipped another week, so shoot me. I have encountered one stumbling block after another in my quest for Shiretown perfection, but I guess my stubbornness paid off and I am now (finally) up to where I thought I was a few weeks ago. All sidings in the Beaufield freight and passenger yards are running smoothly, all the switches work, the Met still scoots about out of sight, appearing and reappearing as she winds her way beneath it all, and all the blocks respond properly to the commands of their various switches.
What's the hold-up? Getting the LED out.

What would Dr. Shumway say?

Dr. Shumway was a dentist here in America's Home Town back in the late 1800's. For whatever reason, he decided that Plymouth needed a rail connection directly to Middleboro, and so he rolled up his sleeves and got it done!
Software, Paper, and Electricity

Another few weeks with no visible progress on the GDP Lines, in fact the spare bedroom still has the bed and dresser in it. However, I have been learning a lot and getting a lot of the planning and "systems engineering" of the layout done.

TURTLE FIELD RAILROAD : Electrical Wiring

Hi all !
Second post , about wirering on the T.F.R. layout.
Fisrt the technologic choice :
I'm an automative technician so i choose to pilot my layout with a smal PLC (Process Logic Controller). It's a really little one with only 6 inputs et 4 output.
It's only job is to affect switches direction in funtion of the road choosen. It was for test . It work nice but i think it isn't a good solution for the non autotician people ! (expensive and complex).
It's Mike Fifers Fault

If you been on the nScale.net forum for any amount of time you have undoubtedly seen a post or thread authored by Mike Fifer. He and Robin run what, in my humble opinion, is the best online N scale hobby supply on the web, Fifer Hobby Supply. They have phenomenal customer service, competitive pricing, and a true understanding of the hobby. The ACT, The Albuquerque Carnuel & Tijeras RR is a great example of his skill and craftsmanship.
Relays with memory

Relays with a memory
I stumbled across this item while doing some background for my reversing loops.
Manufactured by: Omron Electronic Components, LLC of Shaumburg, ILLINOIS, USA.
It is a small pc-board sized relay, Dual Pole Dual Throw, Dual Coil, magnetic latching, each way.

My first attempt at resistoring wheelsets

Resistor your wheelsets
This is my first blog entry so please excuse me if I mess it up badly.
I've only been collecting/modelling for about 3 years now, with a layout that is only in the planning stage.
I have the EasyDCC system from CVP, (IMHO one of the best).
CTI system for computer control and layout realism, and the Rob Paisley block detection sensors. (the ones geared toward DCC)
Presently, I have 30 locos with about 180 pieces of rolling stock.
I will list all part numbers at the end of this article, for those interested.
To Power or Not To Power your FROGS - That is the Question
What do you do when your engines keep stalling while traversing a turnout? Is there anything you can do to stop having to tap your engines just to get them through a turnout?
The following are from a couple of forum threads that I responded to and I think answer the age old question of whether or not you should consider wiring power to your turnout frogs.
I wired power to my Atlas Code 55 turnouts - and now my engines crawl easily through all my turnouts like they were running on straight track!
Hopefully this article will help beginning MRR'ers better understand "why" and "how" to power their turnout frogs.
