Scenery

Work continues

This holiday weekend gave me time to work on the layout and start covering the ugly pink color of the foam. As a start I did the assemble the Walton Lumber yard and with a lot of help  from my wife, we set it up on its place in Karolville.  My wife bought some Woodland Scenics ground cover sheet and we glued to the foam, then we placed the 2 buildings and added the details.  Hope to continue with more industries and roads for Karolville in the next couple of weeks.  Keep you posted. AL_Scene_Proj09_16 Not that long ago, in fact it was June 13th, I provided  Update Number 3 on this scenery project for Alligator Lines. Well, it is now finished!

Running the Valley

lazaro's picture

Well, I'll admit I just couldn't resist the temptation of seeing how my NYC passenger car set looks running around one of the valleys in my layout, since i still haven't purchased the proper locomotives I used B&O traction, I placed the pictures in the Gallery album named Running The valley,

Putting the 'Hobby' back into Obsession... n' vice versa.

MisterMahoney's picture

I've been absent from this forum and my beloved N-Scale hobby for quite some time. For the curious, it is because I am, what my wife has coined, a "Seasonal Hobbiest." That meaning, I feel more like doing crafty things in the fall (perceived here in South Florida in the most minute way... one needs to eye the calendar to be absolutely sure). I'm not quite sure what it is about Autumn and Winter that seems more appropriate to me about working on trains... vestiges of my youth up north perhaps... memories of cool autumn days and walking along mysterious half-hidden abandoned tracks.

Naming, Roadbed, and operations for the layout

After completing the DCC wire bus underneath the styrofoam, I am ready to start adding the roadbed. I decided to use cork for mainly because I am familiar with it and know how to use it. I started the process at the lower left side of the layout. Incidentally this will be the industrial section of Karolville, (a small fictitious town somewhere in western Mass or soutwest NH). I also going to try to use ground throws for most of the accesible turnouts. I will post pictures as work progresses.

After a year of hemming and hawing I finally (with the encouragement of others) decided on Track plan #1 from my choice of (pictures in my gallery) three plans. Here is the link to them.

Alligator Lines: Scenery Project 08 Done w/Pictures

BryanC's picture

DSC02923 Well, almost! The area still needs to be populated and I suspect another detail or two will be added in time.

In the mean time I have to update the web site with this project. The biggest task will be sorting through the pictures. I have close to 60 usable pictures of this project and I have to whittle that down to a much smaller number (20 at the most). I'm not even sure the three pictures shown here will make it!

What's the hold-up? Getting the LED out.

Waiting on the postman is not like it used to be when I was young. In those days, if you ordered something from a badly reproduced ad in the back of a magazine as a small boy, you were growing a beard by the time said item arrived from Mysterious Dark Warehouse Inc. located in Back Alley, Timbuktu.

DSC02909 All five structures along with their associated pieces, that are a part of Scenery Project 08, have now been completed and installed. The surrounding areas have also been completed with ground cover (the road is made from cardboard).

New Scratchbuilding Project - done

Michael's picture

I finally finished the feed mill. I didn't bother to add any details or refine things too much - a bit of roof, quick coat of paint, touch of weathering and I've deemed this project done. I can TOTALLY understand how one could become infinitely obsessed with hyper detailing a structure - its fun!
