I am using two-cab DC (although I only have one hooked up at the present time). I made that decision three years ago when I was just starting out and I've not regretted it! By using it I have learned an awful lot!
I may try DCC later on when everything else is pretty much done (one advantage of DC wiring is the ease with which you can switch to DCC) and should I ever start another layout DCC will receive very serious consideration!
Tony, I don't know if this is the case with Brian, but what about someone who has two or more separate, working layouts (maybe shelf style switching layouts) and uses DC on one (or more) and DCC on one (or more)?
Let's see, the club I belong to has a large HO layout and it is DCC.
THe club also has a mobile N Scale layout and it is DC.
My personal layout was DC, but when I moved it, I did not want to rewire 34 blocks.... and have 34 toggles again...
I liked the DCC system at the club, so I went DCC at home, however, seeing all the trouble the club had with the Digitrax system and knowing another fellow who ran an MRC on his home layout, I opted for the better MRC system.
I recieved the Prodigy Express last week, along with 3 decoders and an auto-reverse loop module. I still have an MRC Prodigy Advance Handset on order, it should be here next week.
You are probably correct that some people may have multiple layouts with differing control systems. Others may belong to clubs that have different control systems than their home layout has.
I am not trying to be scientific here, nor all encompassing (If i were, there would need to be additional options for other types of control systems as well). I just wish to get a sense of how far into the "DC-DCC Transition Era" we are.
My gut tells me that DCC acceptance isn't really as far along as one would think and the reasons for that could be manifold, or as simple as average age of MRR-ers. However based on less then 1 day of polling I am surprised at the results.
I myself own several scales and several control systems: DC, DCC & Battery.
But if I was going to walk away from the computer and run a train right now, it would be DCC.
My layout is pretty simple ... double main line with a few switching opportunities on both the inner and outer loops. With a couple "dead track" switches for holding engines not in service I can run two trains and switch either the inner or outer loop using only two blocks. DC works for me ...
Where's the option for

B - If you can run both
B - If you can run both simultaneously on the same piece of track, I will put in that option.
I had entered an explanation for this poll but it never made it to the post.
There are some stipulations to the poll:
First-you must have a layout or a test loop that you could run a train on right now.
And secondly I am interested in what you use to control your trains now. Not planned in the future, but right at this moment.
A legitimate third choice might be battery.

Two Layouts?
Well, I'll write a simple
