Well if percentages add up then 100% votes are in. With the winner looking like Option #8 30% I'm happy about that. Next step I guess. Sign me up for two please.

With only one vote in, the percentages would add up to 100%...100% divided by 1 is 100%. With only 57 votes in, I would say this topic is FAR from over.

Andrew, yes only 58 votes

BryanC's picture
Andrew, yes only 58 votes but I wonder how many more will actually be made? (Most polls I've seen here have very few total votes - not sure why - it seems like folks are not too fond of polls!) Looking at the figures we have, Option #8 is way ahead and I don't think that is likely to change unless we get a sudden influx of late voters to either confirm of change the selection. Overall, I would love to see many more votes but something tells me that not much is going to change! Come on members, if you haven't voted please do! Even if you don't intend to buy the final selection your vote is very important, provided it is your true selection!

From memory, there was

Bryan's picture
From memory, there was something like 87 votes for the original show of interest poll when this all started, and something like ~230 cars would have tentatively been accounted for... But even if the current group of voters ordered an average of 3 cars each (not that likely), it is hardly going to be worth pursuing this... we will be stuck with more cars than we sell... We still have funding concerns for the cars not initially purchased... we where hoping for more tentative sales the closer we got, but the numbers seem to be declining...

This isn't an easy poll to participate in...

wag-zhp's picture
I think a few people may not have voted just because it take two screens to do the voting, one screen to see the choices, and another window with the poll. I also noticed that it takes a looooong time for the images for each car to load. It might just be my browser, but I have noticed that the hyper-linked text doesn't stand out from the rest of the text in many posts. There have been many times that I didn't even notice a link the first time reading through things. That could have happened to many viewers with this poll.

Hyperlinked text (should

Bryan's picture
Hyperlinked text (should be) RED by default. Images can not be inserted in a Poll option. They're the same images as in the original submission thread... I would expect a slow download time would be related to your connection, as the images load in a reasonable time for me (~1-2sec/each)... it's not like you have to go back and forth between screens... review the options, make your selection, go to the poll and cast your vote.

Seems like it will be roofwalks at dawn...

I could go for #1, #12, or #13. Decisions decisions...

230 car special run; Not worth it?

subwayaz's picture

We could probably get some cars made up through Atlas or Micro Trains also for that matter.  I would think time frame as far as actual manufacturing scheduling would be the biggset hold up.

I was just on the Atlas site wondering around at the Special request runs.  Didn't look that difficult especially if we could keep it fairly stock.  Just a thought.

"Special run" cars have a

Bryan's picture

"Special run" cars have a minimum quantity of 300 or more units, depending on who you get them from.

Also, depending on who you get them through, dictates the number of road# you get, or you could be up for the minimum per road#... we don't want to be limited to a single road#, as this detracts from those wishing to purchase multiple units.

This has all been looked into, and will be weighed up before placing the order... any way it goes, you're up for half to place the order, and the balance on fulfillment... once the details are finalized, I'll start taking pre-production orders to fund the upfront payment... but the balance of the order has to be funded somehow, and these funds could be out for an extended period, if we don't have the level of interest that was initially indicated.

I haven't been around much

I haven't been around much in the last 6 months. But I'm still in on this project for three (3) cars. Bryan just let me know when you want the money. See ya

Well Bryan i'm in for three then and just let me know when you need the funds. Well have it here for ya. And as I stated which ever design option is fine with me. ANd from where ever you've checked out is fine.

I'm in for one for sure,

I'm in for one for sure, and I'll prepay for it if you'd rather. How many road #'s are there going to be? Let me know when you need the bread.

Am I just being obtuse here or am I supposed to somehow see pictures of these things or know how to see pictures?? I'm using Safari 3.0.4 but it looked no different in Firefox so I don't think my browser is the problem. I guess I'll just have to search for the images?! -mike

I thought that the cars would all just be NSNX 2008? Why do we need multiple numbers? Seems to me that anyone who worries about that should be used to renumbering by now.

+1  I don't really care about the number, the proto-police will have a fit with this concept car anyway....

From a post in a previous thread:

Quote:
Since the actual number of road numbers offered in a single run varies by manufacturer (six at the most, by one), the actual number of numbers is up in the air... the number will be a composite of;

  • 1st digit = Car type (40' boxcar being the first car type used, it will be "1").
  • 2nd&3rd digit = Run number (This being the first nScale.net car, means it will be "01").
  • 4th&5th digit = Year of release (most likely "08" for this one).
  • 6th digit = Car number (variable, based on the limits place by the manufacturer).

As noted previously, depending on the manufacturer, the number of road#'s you get varies... those buying more than one car will appreciate not having to renumber them, and for some, a lack of variety in road# will limit their purchase quantity...

cost depending I'd buy at

Wired's picture
cost depending I'd buy at least 3 cars when these come out. I'd even up that to 5 if there is availability after everyone has their dibs. I think this is a great idea. Unfortunatly I'm not too fond of the winning option right now... but i'd still take three just to show support for the community...even though I'm a newbie. [:D] I'm personally a fan of option 3!

well do we need a run off

kd7txg's picture

well do we need a run off for the three highest polling cars ?? This has been dragging on for a while .... no i don't want to go too fast (we might mess something up)

.... having a time limit is not a bad idea it helps keep the wheel set rolling and yes i am in for at least three maybe 6 depends on final cost....

some thoughts to consider ... so what say you all now that we have some likes and dislikes showing trends...a run-off for the highest three ? or just forge ahead with this poll and say on March 1st the poll is closed and the project goes forth from then??? if we have a run off it needs to be no longer than a month though a fortnight is a good lime period also to finalize the art work etc.

I personally favor the closing for the poll in a fortnight (on 03-01-2008 @ 23:59hrs UTC) and getting the winning art ready and let the companies of Microtrains, Atlas ,and Intermountain Rail Co. bid on our special run. JmhoSmile

Please tell me, Mark, that

siderod's picture
Please tell me, Mark, that you don't actually think companies will 'bid' on our project, do you? Not to sound cynical or cold, but that just ain't gonna happen. Atlas, MT and IM would all be happier if special runs like ours didn't exist. It is a pain for them to arrange and run, and since most of these runs are being done by people who have no knowledge of the process what so ever, companies are often put under undue pressure by the consignee of the run to make it happen in an unreasonable timeframe. I would say a poll of the top 3 might work...it would help narrow it down a little bit, perhaps encouraging the people who voted for other options to vote for one of the top three, and the winner of that pole would go on to have their artwork reproduced eventually. One thing we still have to look into is not only who'd be willing to do this run for us (overlooking the funding issue for now) but who of the ones willing makes a car that suits our 'requirements'. AR

well I see your point, ... but consider this

kd7txg's picture

i agree with you siderod... but the bottom line is what drives these companies... if special runs did not add to their bottom line they would not do them ... what i am saying is lets see who likes our money more than anyone else... just my humble opinion and let it get run with no push from us... sometime this decade would be nice ... :)

Depending on price...

DHClark76's picture
and depending on the design chosen I would purchase 3 to 5. I am also in favor of a run off of the top three designs. I like several of the designs submitted, hate to have to choose. I wonder if the artist of the non winning submissions would be willing to allow us to use their design concepts. What if a repository was started that housed artwork files to be used for printing out decal sheets. I know that some folks are picky about their own designs and artwork being used. But personally, If I were to come up with a cool design concept (logo, etc.) that someone wanted to use to detail a whole fleet of freight, I'd love to swap designs. Do we have an repository on the site to do something like that? Cheers, Doug p.s. Repository idea is an old one, or is already being done; I'm still new and still discovering things here on the site.

have we ...

kd7txg's picture
have we made this so complicated that we are unable to see it to fruition? ... well back to my nap, wake me up when i can send money for cars. :)

It's not complicated...

Bryan's picture
It's not complicated... just not hasty... I have no plans to have something produced just for the sake of having "something"... this process needs communal input so members will be comfortable that they had their say... the last thing I need is a create of cars that takes for ever to sell...

now that you mention it

yes i happen to understand and agree with you on that  as my dad once said  "fair enough"

Update?

PhilNSF's picture

Hi Bryan,

Any news on this project?

nScale.net Car - Update

Bryan's picture
Phil, I'm currently in negotiations with the different manufactures, to determine whom we're going to use. Atlas and Roundhouse have not responded to requests for a quote. Atherns and Bowser do not have boxcars. So at this point, Deluxe Innovations, InterMountain, Micro-Trains, and RedCaboose, are all in the running. There's a 5-9 month lead time after placing the order. So far, Micro-Trains and InterMountain are leading the race. I've yet to get the final artwork ready for submission. Initial funding has been secured, and once a final price is set, we'll start to take orders to fund the balance.

is this still ongoing ?
