Layout Design and Planning

Code 55 Basic Plans.

jhendy29's picture

I am new to the N Scale hobby.  I would like to do a basic N scale track layout similar to the Scenic Ridge or the like but I have been
unable to find plans for the Atlas code 55  since I use a Mac computer.  There are plenty of plans available for the code 80 but I think I want to go with more of
a realistic track.  Any help or plans would be appreciate.  I am leaning toward the flex track.

need help with new plan

So this is my new room sized layout..... plan is not completed 100% yet. Obviously because I have two tracks that go nowhere.

So the north eastern section needs a rebuild. but I wanna keep this:

general idea of a sceniced area alive.

Kato as McDonalds

Komata's picture

My fellow N-scaler's, your advice please -

We have probably all seen the McDonald's train-type toys which consist of 4 squares shaped like pieces of a jigsaw, which can be locked together in a variety of ways and on which are engraved a 'railway track' on which a clockwork toy  trundles round and round and round.

My wife has suggested that it would be possible to duplicate this sort of 'layout' using four pieces of curved Kato Unitrack (probably of 8.5" radii), each attached to its own peice of ply.

Operations and design

I have posted two version of my layout.   Can you please comment if the second one is better for operation?

[G2:53352]

This is the current layout as it is being built.

[G2:53855]

This is the modification.

Does it make it more logical to connect the industries to the yard instead of to the main line.

Thanks for your suggestions

new track plan in the works...new room to build in!

Wired's picture

So I'll be moving to a new place by Christmas it looks like... so I've pretty much stopped pouring money into the current layout. I still plan on ballasting and doing a few scenic things to practice, but buildings and track will be on hold as I save for the new layout.

Anyways, instead of getting a small corner of the house in the hallway i'll be getting a full on spare room. About 9m square... I haven't done the conversion to imperial yet...

The Umpqua Western is well underway!!

On Friday 7/25/08 the golden spike celebration was held and the owner feasted. There are no shorts or sneak shorts on the main and DCC is tied into the main now. Time soon to build the add-on tail of the "L" so that the engine facility can be built. The spurs will be added soon and industry can be added. SOON the Umpqua Western will be hauling revenue freight.
