Code 55 Basic Plans.

jhendy29's picture

I am new to the N Scale hobby.  I would like to do a basic N scale track layout similar to the Scenic Ridge or the like but I have been
unable to find plans for the Atlas code 55  since I use a Mac computer.  There are plenty of plans available for the code 80 but I think I want to go with more of
a realistic track.  Any help or plans would be appreciate.  I am leaning toward the flex track.

4-truck Depressed Centre Flatcar

Cornreaper's picture

I've been slowly modifying a loco and acquiring appropriate rolling stock to eventually recreate (or at least create a display train for) my local shortline, the Barrie-Collingwood Ry.  I recently came across pictures of a hydro transformer being moved on a 4-truck flatcar, and thought it would be an intersting and unique freight load to model.  Question is, who would make this type of flatcar in n-scale?  Walther's has one in HO, but after half an hour of Googling, I'm coming up with nothing for N.  Does anybody know if such an animal exists?

need help with new plan

So this is my new room sized layout..... plan is not completed 100% yet. Obviously because I have two tracks that go nowhere.

So the north eastern section needs a rebuild. but I wanna keep this:

general idea of a sceniced area alive.

MT couplers hanging up on track

Okay now is when I really show my ignorance.  My apologies for not knowing the correct terminology but I know someone will know what I am talking about and I'm sure correct me.

Ground throws at tight locations

I am using atlas custom turnouts with ground throws. It works fine in most locations in my layout. except for one in my yard that has parallel tracks at each side very close. Any ideas on what can I do. I have a picture of the yard here:

The problem spot is the right hand switch that connects to the storage tracks in Miriamburg

Atlas 2-6-0 Mogul MT Coupler Conversion - Possible Solution

DaveNB's picture

Hi All,

For some time now I've been struggling with how to install a Micro-Trains coupler on my Atlas 2-6-0 Mogul.  (ATL-41615, N-Scale of course)

The coupler recommended by Micro-Trains on their web site is a 2004 body mount coupler.  I've looked at this one, but to me it would require a fair bit of milling and filing to get it mounted and I'd rather not mess up my tender.

With a bit of experimentation, I've found that the following seems to work with no modification of the tender required:

Kato's Daylight

Could someone please tell me how long (in inches) the 10 car Daylight Special with Kato GS4 is. I have the engine and want to get the passenger cars but I want to make sure I can put in a siding long enought to park it.

Thanks.

Building European Structure kits

BikerDad's picture

I'm in the midst of building a Heljan bridge kit, and have noted something that seems to be endemic of European structure kits in particular, and building kits in general.

The lack of alignment pins/tabs on the parts.  I built hundreds of plastic models as a kid, and a kit without alignment pins and tabs was something I never encountered.  The kits were 95% aircraft, armor and ships, with a few monster and car kits tossed in as well.

Lighting a Rico depot

I’m building a Rico depot (ancient AHM ‘Rico Station’ plastic kit that I mentioned elsewhere), and want some opinions on lighting. Here’s a link to a picture of the real thing:
