View Full Version : Bandai Shorty B chassis

Hello all,

I have just rebuild a Model Power Brill Trolley onto a Bandai Shorty B chassis. It was running fine after I finished the conversion, but I was using it to test my new overhead that I was building, not powered that way. And it just stopped dead.

First question, ideas on why it failed. (So I do not do what happened again)

Second, how do I open it up to verify power etc.?

Thanks in advance,

Well Ted, you either have a short, an open or something jammed in the gears. If you have an ammeter wired into your panel does it show a short circuit? I assume other locos run on the track putting the problem inside your trolley. If you don't have an ammeter you can wire a 12 volt bulb into one of the track power wires at your power supply. If this lights up bright when you turn the throttle up you have a short and if it does not light then you have lost an electrical connection somewhere. If you have a Volt/Ohm meter you can do this same test using the Ohm scale on the meter and connecting the test clips to the wheels. An open circuit will show no ohm reading while a short will show a very low number. Test a good loco to get an idea on what a good reading should be. Sorry I can't help you with the internal diagnostics because I have never seen one of these trolleys, but I'm sure someone can help you from here. Good luck, it doesn't sound like it'll be too difficult to fix.

I was able to get the chassis apart, and fixed the contacts and now it is running fine, I even found out that it could be easily converted to overhead power. And that is the plan. I will keep everyone posted.
