View Full Version : Bachmann TGV

So I got a "brand new" still in the plastic Bachmann TGV set for christmas but the engine's drive gears keep jamming up. To be specific it's the outer-most gears and the ones just inside that are hanging up on each other. It's bad enough that the engine won't even roll even after I tried trimming the culprit teeth a little. From the little info I could dig up this seems to be a common problem but couldn't find any solutions, anyone know of a fix for this or am I just SOL?

This is a design feature of many older Bachmann products. The white plastic the axle/gears are made of, shrinks and splits. The split is what is jamming everything up. You could check with Bachmann if they have the gears in stock any more. North West Short Lines makes replacement gears. You might try the gears from a replacement trucks for the PCC and Brill.

If you want to have fun with a good looking, very well performing TGV, buy a Kato one. They are great!
