Here is the thread to post your photo for the month. Only 9 days late as long as we don't count August......

This month's theme will be: Crossings

As a reminder any photo is acceptable as long as its your own, it was taken within this month and it can be either a model or the real thing.

It can be an active crossing with a train running through it, it can be a crossing of railways past. There's lots of different types of crossing and signal equipment out there so lots of potential.

Please remember to share something about your photo - technique, equipment etc

So let's see what you can find

Just to be clear, are you including rail / road crossings, or just rail / rail crossings?

I can never keep the terminology straight on those two...

Any type of crossing would do, especially when half the month is gone almost

Great theme! I love crossing pics for some reason, and they're good resources for modeling as well.

I have quite a few, but not many from this month... here's a few that are:

Here are a couple of crossings I shot this past weekend on a quick trip to the mother in laws in the BC interior.

First up is an uncontrolled crossing at the entrance to a small residential community midway between Castlegar and Nelson beside Highway 3A on the CP Nelson Sub. We just past the daily freight in Castlegar about 20 minutes before so it would have passed this spot about an hour after this picture en route to Nelson. What caught my eye is there are 5 grade crossings accessing this community of 50 plus homes and none are controlled coming off a 50 MPH (80 km/h) main highway.

Next is a three track crossing beside Victoria Drive in Revelstoke, BC. The wife and I just got into the car and were ready to leave the Railway Museum when this freight started to roll through, then stop. It was still building what was eventually a 5 km long train heading to the west coast. This was taken from the parking lot while waiting.

Both were taken with a Nikon Coolpix L-820 on automatic setting, then resized to 26% for uploading.

Here is the BNSF/CP Rail crossing in Minot, ND with interchange track. At this junction the CP is a single track and the BNSF is a double track main.

and the CP Rail crossing in front of the AMTRAK station. Caught the tail end of the CP Rail train 198 which is the container train.

Darn! Too bad I didn't know about this thread. I just waited at a crossing tonight on purpose to watch a CP grain train go by. I even drove below the posted speed limit just to let the train get to the crossing before me. It even had an old SD40-2 as the second unit on the head end. I haven't seen something like that in a while. Too bad I didn't have the camera ready.

Here is my entry for the month. This is crossing #1 on Texas Hwy 57 that passes through DouCar on my layout.

Taken with my Canon A560 point and shoot, with the macro setting on, normal room light.

Well, I'll give this a try. It's been a several years since I tried any REAL photography...

I need to dig out my REAL camera, a Canon Rebel T1i. All I had last night when we went out to dinner was my wife's little (5 year old) Fuji WP. Not too bad, but it could be better.

I finally got out the other day

These were shot on F8, ISO 400 just in time for a train:

I got out for some night time photos.

All were on a tripod, with a remote shutter release, F11 in bulb mode for the shutter

This was 2 cars passing over the crossing
61974

This was when the gates first went down
61975

And this was when they went up and the waiting cars passed
61976

I wasn't at the right angle to actually get a good one with the train going by, and I wasn't very happy with the flare from the lights that came out in the pics
