I'm going to use foam only for the board. I found some nice thick sturdy pieces at the local DIY store. I don't have an old door to use.

The foam makes it light weight and it's easy to landscape.

I have some old fleischmann track that I will use in hidden parts, and then I will use PECO for the rest and the turnouts.

With all deference to the folks out there that love homasote, I dislike it intensely. This perhaps comes from my theatrical background where it was used all too frequently. I find it a touch difficult to work with and it can make a fine dust that gets into everything.

I love foam! It's light and easy to work. And if you use 2" foam as your base you wouldn't have to use the door.

If the track from the Bachmann set is EZ-Track, I don't know if you can use it with the Atlas as I have never tried. If you can connect them, then I suppose there is no reason not to use both. Perhaps someone else could shed some light here.
