  1. More micro controller work

So, a while back, I found a guy on Ebay in China who made n scale traffic signals for road traffic. The assemblies themselves are very nice, and everything I have purchased so far just works.

So, I decided to control them with a micro so I could make it act like a US traffic intersection. The video included shows the results. Works like a charm. For this, I used an Adafruit Raspberry Pi Pico in the feather form factor, and created a ...
  2. More of a technical post about using Just Plug from Woodland Scenics

So I gotta say, I love the WS Just Plug led system. The lamps themselves look very nice to scale, and are very easy to use. Overall, the system is a solution to making a layout pop. However, it has some downsides. The controllers are pretty big, require a big power supply, and need to be manually interacted with to turn them on and off. What if you could turn them on and off just using your wifi network at home? That's what I decided to do.

I put together a feather form factor daughter ...
  3. City of - Trains

I'm knee deep into getting these 3D printed bodies painted and lettered. Missed the true mask point across the air intakes on purpose to get a good seal, and also to align the bottom lines up...the printed E2's are just a bit short and tall.
The new decals for red stripes didn't hold together, almost as if there were no top coat to seal the ink to the backing slip. So I'll be working on that. These bodies were made for Kato chassis's, but required quite some touch-up to actually fit the mechanism. ...

  4. Wholesale layout changes

So, as I've been going on, I have realized the original design did allow for reversing, but it took some work and didn't allow to continuous run anything. So, I'm ripping up a lot of the layout to fix that. I've got a new design, including a new Anyrail file to show what I've changed. At a minimum, the two reversible loops (orange/yellow) are now able to be used as a larger continuous run. The trick will be to use block detection so that when a train enters one of the loops, the turnouts are triggered ...

  5. Learning that gluing things down doesn't mean that it's done

I've spent the last few days ripping up old track and doing some cleanup and fixing. I wasn't happy with how some of the elevation transitions worked, and so I kinda gave up and just started over on a whole section of track. You can see the progress in the new images, but the rise into the upper loop was ripped out to make it cleaner and more even. In the past, there were too many elevation changes, and the way I put the turnouts in, there were some uneven transitions, including one under a turnout. ...
