Start of another station, Grand Central in Chicago

Rate this Entry
To go along with the Lee's Coveralls ad I created for the back of CMT 9 story, I always intended to create a building similar to Chicago's Grand Central Station. I know the ad was visible from Dearborn Station, but that building never held a visual appeal for me, and I also didn't have enough room to have both Dearborn & GC. Northwestern, while it is a very nice station, also had no room, and I felt that it was well beyond my capabilities to do it justice. so-
I am using many views and a few plans to get the "look" of it, but as most modeling projects, it will be greatly compressed.

It will be a project that will move along when I either have the part on hand for some detail, or when I can get the nerve to tackle some issue in construction that I just know I will muddle.

JTT "TT Scale" brick plastic sheets will cover a core made of matte board, and I am winging it on windows for now. Form will need to follow function for now.

Stay safe out there
Steve

I love scratch building. Good luck with the project. I like that you have no deadline to increase pressure on you. Are you planning any interior details?

I'm not planning for that item. In fact, to save space, the end of track posts will be only about an inch from the front of the building, as there is also a train shed planned, but far too high of an arc and only a third as long.
The tricky part is this station is also my Dearborn stand-in, and I may build the over-track canopy that was distinct to that station's departure tracks. Only if time allows, as that too must be build from scratch.
Thanks for asking, and sorry I didn't receive a notice you had written to the blog.
    New installment soon.

Wise decision! I built a terminal a couple of years back and I decided that to avoid that "see through" look I'd do some interior walls, etc. The whole thing got way out of hand, and it ended up taking months to complete. It came out only OK, and the inside is barely noticable.
