Huh, Allen? Don’t know what you mean? The trains in that photo are all prototype size. The hand vac, on the other hand, is the length of a football field. Why do you think it cost so much?

    Small cordless vacuum

I have been searching for a small vacuum to clean up stray grass, ballast, dust and other scenery material. I have found most of the hand-held shop vacs to be too bulky for working in tight N scale...

I started over twenty years ago and chose Atlas code 80 flex track and Peco switches. I certainly would not rip up my track now to change, and if ballasted well, it can look great. If I were starting...

It’s not just the batteries: you’d need to fit in the radio receiver and motor control unit/decoder as well. Add a sound system and N scale engines start looking really challenging. Might work for a...

I thought “giant snowflakes?” Naw. Then I read the description, and indeed, they are giant snowflakes. And here I have spent the past year carefully cementing in place several quarts of WS...

Nice work. I agree with the above, ask lots of questions, post lots of photos and most of all: enjoy the hobby. There are also tons of videos on YouTube on scenery, structure building, weathering,...

DanB80: welcome to the NScale community from another danb. You will be very pleased with all aspects of the Kato F units. Even though I have strayed to other manufacturers, Kato is the gold standard...
  10. Canadian N Scalers Have Found Solution to Moose Stampedes

While hiking in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia this summer, we discovered that Canadian N Scalers have found a way to protect themselves against moose stampedes. The sign says something about protecting...

With more room, you might consider adding an entrance track to the left-side yard, so that it becomes a through yard; providing a bit more flexibility unless you really like back-in movements.

The icicles are made with Woodland Scenics water effects. You squeeze a small amount onto a piece of wax paper and drag it downwards while thinning it out (like a tail). These dry in about 24 hours...

    Sierra Snow Shed

I have dreamed of scratchbuilding a snowshed for the Sierra mountains section of my layout; even more so after seeing the wonderful model of a Great Northern prototype by Danish modeler Peter Hersted...

I'd give it an A+. Looking at the last photos, I again had to do a double-take to distinguish the prototype from the model. Mark, you definitely set the standard for the rest of us to aim for.

I agree that No Ox doesn’t affect adhesion (unless you apply too much) but does help with stalling due to poor electrical pickup (a problem I’ve had with other BLI products).

I’m pulling a dozen cars up grades of 2.5-3.0% without any slippage so far. I’ll try adding more cars this weekend and report back. It is still running well - maybe it’s the NoOx?

I will have to agree with OTFan. Perhaps you just mistyped the word and your spellchecker replaced “miraculous” with “mediocre.” I would have picked “outstanding” to describe your work! :)

I find that a pair of Optivisors does the trick. When I’m wearing it, my 66 year-old eyes do just fine with N scale.
  20. BLI Mikado first run

Just received my Mikado from Mike Fifer. So far, I’m very pleased. The detail is good and sound is loud. I don’t see any jittery motions at any speed either alone or pulling cars and the loco runs...

I’m curious us about what you use to glue in your lights? I can always get the LEDs stuck down well but have trouble with the wires. I don’t want them just flopping around inside a building...

I had seen the prototype photos of the “pipe creature” in your previous post. Looking at this post I had to do a double take to figure out it was the model, not the prototype. Wonderful realism!
