If it was a kit, I think motorizing it would be viable. The 3D print probably would be more hassle to clean up and convert. I'm with you though, a kit like this would probably change my modeling...

A kit would be worth $100 at least. It depends on the details- if there are etchings or other cast elements, that would be welcome and increase the price.
