From the condition of the locomotives pictured, I would guess that the line is doing well with only 22 miles of track.
(The voices I hear in my head may not be real, but sometimes they come up with a good idea.)

    Have fun.

you know what that sw1200 is very jerky you could feel every bump in the track. the loco twists and turns even on straight sections

Notice photos are taken on NS mainline not COLT's main.

the track follows the contours of the ground like i said the track was built in 1865 although its been replaced several times no one has ever smoothed it out. NS used to own it all they did was put welded rail, then left it to die until Columbia Water and Light bought it in 1980 something

Wasn't this line featured in a "Railroad you can model" article in MR some 20+ years ago? Didn't it have a GP38 and a F unit then?

yes it was featured in MR 20 years ago but that was when some other railroad owned it

The railroad starts at Columbia Water and Light facility which is also the Coal plant. It serves the plant for our electricity it brings in coal from the NS Main line that runs through Centraila. Centraila is the last stop on the COLT. Columbia has a lot of stops until it hits ETTA MO. i cant tell you the stops b/c i dont know all the stops along the way......even though ive ridden in the cab of the sw1200! BTW i got to drive it a little it was so cool!

"Hey Mom i dont want a car for my 17th birthday i want a train!!"

After Etta it stops at Hallsville. after Hallsville it think its Centraila.
i dont know its hard to understand these Inentory Management Reports.

they are like the waybills of today. here is an example

Do you remember the exact MR magazine...I'd like to research the RR.

    I was able to find a little information;
    http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/Waterand...About_Us/COLT/

    COLT (Columbia Terminal)
A short line railroad owned by the City of Columbia and operated by the Water and Light Department.
The railroad provides service into Columbia, MO from the main rail line in Centralia.

The "some other railroad" was Norfolk & Western. The shortline is listed in my 1992 diesel roster guidebook as owning one ex-MoPac SW1200, being based in Columbia, and having the reporting marks "CO". It is not listed in my 1986 edition.

The article in question was reprinted in Kalmbach's Railroads You Can Model in 1976. Those interested should be able to find a copy at a local model railroad meet or at various online book dealers.

That's cool....I hear the nearby honk of the COLT engines in the mornings on my way to work. I wouldn't have guessed seeing someone else familiar with the small short line. I wonder if all this snow is slowing up it's ability to move between columbia and centralia.

Job shadow? way cool. A guy I work with has talked about riding on that thing during the summers....or something like that. Anyway, yes I'm in columbia also. Been here for about 6 months. I've been wondering if there's a club or something around here for n scale folks.

    Default colt rr

Hello.....I've been looking for a mrr club in mid mo for the 14 yrs I've been here.....the closest one I know about is Mexico...but its small....
When I lived in Wooldridge....I wanted to build a full size museum and a model RR club....but its a ghost town.....it seems theres not a lot of RR'ing in mid MO.....I was building the colt rr in my home ' til my stepson showed up and I had to give up my train space....Railroads you can model is a good source....The Wabash HS has a periodocal on the entire Columbia branch.....I had everything I needed to do it....I still have the trainmasters train list from Mexico....3'X4' sheet of train info....very large...now I build custom HO cabooses to sell on ebay....hopefully in a few years I can use that money to buy a real caboose...

    Default COLT Line

I realize this is a very old thread but since I recently joined this group and live about a mile from the COLT line I thought I would post this link http://columbiabranchrailroad.com/

    Great book, check it out.
