I've just had a quick look through Railpictures.net for leased locos in California. It's not as rare as you may think. For instance :

This is a nice photo with a couple of leased locos from different companies in the consist....

    There's your excuse....go for it!

Whew! Thanks! Nice find! This is the only GATX loco I found in California at locophotos.com: GATX. (Have you stopped laughing yet?) So as you can see, that's no SD60! But thanks, I feel a lot better about running GATX in my Los Angeles-based railroad! Railphotos has a BUNCH of GP35-2 photos shot in California in the GATX paint scheme I just bought!

All in all I think this is something we can all get involved with. Here is my Kentucky Northern GP40. The company went bankrupt last year, and the Montrose and Highland Railroad purchased the company. The KN had a series of small branch lines, but its main route ran manifests from Lexington to Louisville. This is the main area of interest for the MHRR. As you can see, this loco was an ex UP locomotive, which the KN patched. The MHRR have yet to repaint it into the corporate colours, so for the time being, it will be seen on the layout in the KN patched scheme.

I can't remember how many leasers I've built since this thread was started... I've sold most of them off to focus on the engines that actually run on my line, but here are a few from along the way.
