I have a caboose remaining from a long gone Bachman Spectrum set, which i did not use. Find the resting place at the end of a track, glued forever (my diorama is a folding one and i don't want to put on track and remove from track eny time i open or close). Heavy weathered with acrylics and powders, glued on track with CA.

I follow this thread for long time, but i forgot the fact of having one on layout.

This MT caboose got a little extra love from me...painted the stove jack and the grab rails and added some cupola braces made out of guitar strings. And painted the roof black.

I need to have a caboose urgent. Having +30 steam locomotives from all era, a lot of old kind of cars for them and not even a caboose for making a train, seems ugly. . I saw few of them really nice here and i have to plan to buy at least 4-6 pcs, different

Gotta have cabeeses. I model in the modern era and have a caboose bringing up the rear on all my trains. Ever since I was a little guy growing up in a town with many railroad tracks I always anxiously waited for the caboose to bring up the rear. It was like the gold at the end of a rainbow for me.

Already hunting on E-bay. . I don't care for new or old, if are in good shape, i will buy. considering at least one every 15-20 cars, i need at least 10 to 15 now. Different if possible, if not i have to buy and transform them. Still looking for old kind, wood, not metal and rivets. Bachman are on No go list, due to rapido stile coupling, which still used on European products like standard. Till now, only Orient Express set from KATO have the Rapido stile couplings remain on cars. All another one are MT or KATO. Also looking for any kind of kit, good to built in the longer winter days.

Today I started bashing a C-30-4 together from a Concor bay window, and an atlas cupola, following an article in Nscale magazine from 2009.

    What I started with:

    Sectioning the frames together:

    Where I ended the night:

what is left for tomorrow is doing the ladders and railings from the gold medal detail kit.
I already painted the ends Vermillion.

I'm not allowed to run the train, the whistle I can't blow. I'm not allowed to say how fast the Railroad Train can go.
I'm not allowed to shoot off steam, nor even clang the bell. But let the damned Train jump the track, and see who catches hell!

    Tony, you're back!

Moose mean, well, you know you're back. Moose just wondering where you've been sooo long...

    Nice caboose!

Wouldn't mind seeing some of your custom steam locomotives, hint hint...

Took over managing the hobbyshop I work at a few years back which sucked up all my time. Covid hit, we shortened our hours, and almost doubled our business. I have evenings again, plus a month and a half of down time early on to get caught up on stuff.

Simple Atlas EV caboose. I would love to find a set of the Athabasca end rails for this model, but they are long out of production.

If anybody is interested in the caboose kit, PM me. There is an as built version with stairs and a narrow porch and a later version with full width porch and ladder style steps. The picture posted above is the stair style steps. In this post is the wide porch style and an example of the the caboose kit built with no additional details added. What you see is what comes in the kit minus trucks and couplers. This started out as "can this be done" in another forum and after watching guys argue for 4 pages about how wide the board spacing should be and how it could be printed, I drew one up and threw it out there. It then turned into, how detailed can I make it.

So did you get the board spacing right?

I'm digging the snow shed/tunnel portal. Puts me in mind of the west portal of Tunnel 4 on Stampede Pass.

Honestly not sure, I ended up with 4." boards. Never could find an actual measurement, 4" looked good compared to the photo's.
