    Default Model Power

I have heard mixed results on Model Power's line up of steam. Has quality control or the engine itself improve lately?

I only have the 2-6-0 mogul. Picked it up a couple of months ago. She pulls pretty good. The pickup is not the greatest but it crawls through my turnouts 90%this of the time. I found that every so often cleaning the tender wipers with alcohol keeps it running pretty smooth. I'd like to pick IP the 4-6-2the just haven't had the chance yet.

I bought the semi-streamlined Pacific in PRR Tuscan, ran ok for about a half hour then the pins holding the valve gear to the rear drivers fell out, one was lost forever, sent it back for a refund.

Bought another PRR Pacific (black non streamlined version), it seemed to do ok going forward, but in reverse was bobbing and running rough, turns out the drivers on one side weren't properly quartered causing binding. Once I fixed that it ran like a dream. Pulling power is decent as well, it has no trouble moving the 10 car Kato Broadway Limited on level track, I'm sure it would pull more than that.

I've got a MP 4-6-2 semi-streamlined.. It seemed to waddle on the straights and derail on the curves. I sent it to Skipgear for a tune up and decoder install.
Turns out that the pilot spring was too stiff, he removed the spring and installed the decoder.

When you ask this type of question you will always get a variety of answers based on the individual respondent's opinion. So, in the end you have to weigh them all and arrive at your won conclusions! I have several MP locos and am basically happy with them. I have:

2 - American 4-4-0's, run smooth, don't pull much on my grades but probably not worse/better than the prototype. Removing the spring over the pilot truck improved it hauling capabilities.

3 - Mogul 2-6-0's, nice and smooth, traction tires, good hauling abilities.

1 - Mikado 2-8-2, smooth, good power, no traction tires.

5 - Pacifics 4-6-2, not the latest run, no traction tires. These all run but they run from noisy to quiet, good hauling to anemic (only one), But basically, I am happy.

    1 FP7 - good running loco.

All can be seen in my album "Fleet"

If you can, as with any loco, try before you buy. MP seems to want to keep customers happy and have a good warranty.
    Dick,

Usually, when all is said and done, there's a lot more said than done!

indeed as dick said MP seems to have quailty in mind with customer service....i have 1 4-6-2 (there are horror stories but we will not go there) that after some minor tweeking and peeking it runs fair to good.....pulls great new release with traction tires....the detail on these engines is awesome

OK. Worth a gamble then! I did own a FP-7 when it first came out. A little noisy, ran great, the headlight did its job acutually for one and pulled well.
