    Default Electric Motors

I have several old steam and deisel models (N scale) that dont work. Some need replacement motors.
    1) is there a good web source that will show pictures so I can figure out the closest fit?
    2) Also, just how is power transferred from the wheels to the engine? is there a schematic or two that might show the most common methods.
    thanks

this is a great site for basic locomotive info http://www.visi.com/~spookshow/locos.html

as far as re-powering with a new motor each loco pretty much will be its own thing as far as what will fit/recommended...your best bet is post a thread in the "Motive Power" section for each particular locomotive..."what will work how-to" type questions for "X model made by Y Inc."

same goes for the "wiring schematic"...each manufacture uses their own design on the same basic principle...wipers on the wheels/axles pick-up the current from the rails and wires take it to the motor/DCC board...

depending on age/manufacture you may find schematics/blow-up plans on their individual websites (kato for example is pretty good with that)

and welcome to the Hobby and NScale dot Net.....
