    Icon6 Recommend to a small switcher locomotive.

    I'm interested diesel switcher 40-70 ton.

    Provide information of interest as well. I want a low price. And would like to purchase through internet.

    Bachmann makes 40 and 70 ton switchers I have a 40 toner would recommend it!

    Keep in mind if you buy a very small switcher you'll pretty much have to be using powered-frog turnouts. If not I'd recomend something like an atlas mp-15dc but that's a road switcher not sure if it's what you're looking for. But something like the bachmann 40t will certainly need powered frogs to run smoothly.

    The Bachmann 70 tonner doesn't have much problems with non powered frogs, as I saw yesterday on a friends layout. These are DCC Nattapon and don't come in the road names you mention. Not so small but a great engine is the NW2 from Kato, and that comes with UP colors and several others, can also be easily converted to DCC.

    Your only other choice is a kit from RandGust. http://www.randgust.com/ His kits are based on Kato B-Train Shorty Chassis #11-105,11-106 or 11-107.

    Not all railroads had all types of equipment your choices of roads my have to be custom painted and decaled.

    The Bachamanns are available all over the net, prices on eBay start as low as a penny but of course that price is never paid. The locos only come DCC equipped . Early versions used a non-operating but functional knuckle coupler.

    I want a diesel switcher, but the price is not expensive.
    Because the cost of shipping to Thailand.

    I have a budget of 100 dollars are deciding between Diesel switcher or Kato SD70Ace.

    I think I can buy it next month. During Christmas

    The NW2 from Kato is hard to beat. It's a good runner, looks good, and captures that "small switcher" look withou being too small.

    My second choice would be the Atlas MP15, though I'm not sure it comes in the colors you want. CSX uses a pair of them to switch the yard near my childhood home.

    Atlas VO-1000 is also good
    the Bachmann 44 toner can run across unpowered turnouts no problem
    Ive always wanted an NW2 so I can't comment on that

    Another nod for the Kato NW2 when it shows up, Im pretty psyched about it and plan on getting one or two.

    If I'm not mistaken the Bachmann locos have dual mode decoders that run either DC or DCC? I have one each of their 44 and 70 ton switchers and have no complaints. My frogs are powered.

    Yes, the 44 and 70 tonners should be factory DCC/DC. Just remember, short wheelbased engines won't get along with a lot of switches! As long as the frogs are powered, it'll help! Here is what Mark has to say:

    Best choice you can make, I have 2 of these little beasts in Santa Fe colors , both with dcc, this digitrax decoder is easy to install , 10 minutes at the most. They can realy crawl, I mean to a point that you can hardly see they are moving.

    Not as many places as they used to be. The NW2 was built in the 40's so the ones that are running have been rebuilt a couple of times. Some of them are on their sixth or seventh owner. But they are still running. The MP-15 was the last end cab switcher made. Today they have been replaced by the Green Goat and other low emmision rebuilds of road locomotives. But they are not made in N scale yet. Their long hood is often very low making them a challenge to manufacture.

    I didn't know what a green goat is but this is adorable. I love the little conductor goat. I can see how this would be a big challenge to model, wouldn't want to try to jam a decoder into this.

    That is nice, a bit like a trawler on wheels, never mind the decoder , I think manufacturers can't even get a motor in.

    I will pile onto the Kato NW2 for its good looks and smooth running. I have a Korean built VO1000 that is a poor runner, but the same model built in China has good reviews. I think you made a good choice for reliabillity sake.

    You should be able to find the MP15 for NS as well, but if you do make sure it is the Atlas MP15 and not the Concor one. this is not as adaptable to DCC as the Atlas MP15.
