That Peco track cleaner is just a slightly more abrasive version of the Woodland Scenics Rail Pal: https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscen...ow/item/TT4575 - in case that's more available on your side of the pond.

(I have both and normally use the Peco version for removing paint and glue and the Woodland Scenics version for "normal" cleaning)

Moose finished wiping down all the aforementioned and reinstalled scenic section thingies...

And now ... ... ... Tackling the track on the opposite side of the layout!

First up was most of the logging branch, from south of Oban Yard up to the second tunnel - excluding the unfinished trestle track, then the upper area from tunnel to tunnel, and the logging camp spurs.

Moose slightly changing how the track cleaning is performed: 1. Remove two scenic section thingies for better track access, 2. Abrasive clean with eraser-looking thingy (all rails) & toothpick (specifically for turnout frogs), 3. Wipe down with isopropyl alcohol-soaked cloth, 4. Vacuum up all the bits, and 5. Apply No-Ox-ID by the tippy tip of hoof.

Unfortunately, Moose discovered - much to Moose's dismay - that the ballast along the track approaching the logging camp was not glued down well. So, there's another "some day" project to address it...

Moose sits on the edge of the abyss, and contemplates ... ... ... How the heck are these hidden tracks going to get cleaned?

Well, there's nothing for it other than to roll up moose-sleeves and get'er done!

Moose crawled inside of the layout ... You may now refer to Moose as the "Moose under the mountain"!

Moose has become a troglodite !!! More likely, looking for his secret stash of Scotch, or a snug place to hibernate (meese do hibernate ? Err.....)

Moose has a very unique layout. It would appear to have more track hidden than exposed ! Maybe meese prefer to listen to trains running rather than actually see them, or is it that meese find trains exposing themselves indecent ?? Who knows ?

Lets just hope he sucsseeds in his No-Oxing so that we can enjoy seeing some big steam vids soon. Now that would make for a chearful Chrismas

All the best Mr.Moose2013, Keep up the good work.
    Thanks, Tom

Expect nothing except the opposite of what you expect, and then expect it to be something other than that ! Then that's about what it will be

Moose contorting like Moose hasn't contorted in a very long time ... And, ya'know, Moose can contort with the best of them. It's the antlers that cause problems ... Always the antlers...

Sooo, Moose commenced to removing access panels, scrubbing & vacuuming rails, and applying the No-Ox-Id-for-you gunk...

Moose eventually moved on to doing nearly all of Oban Yard. Just don't have enough places to place everything in order to get to the two passenger sidings and the two mainlines beyond them...

Yes, Moose has a Tomix track cleaner, but it's been in and out of the You-Break-It-We-Fix-It shop for quite a while. The track cleaner was fine -- when it worked -- for vacuuming up debris or wiping with its pad, but Moose wanted to provide the longer-term solution of using the No-Ox in lieu of repeatedly abrading track rails to remove oxidation.

He should make one that the little moose can ride on while he cleans track. I'm sure the lil guy would greatly appreciate riding versus walking the entire track.

Okay, Moose refrained from going off to stampede a certain gandy dancing army dude for calling Moose little, and instead ... ... ... Cleaned more track!

This time, Moose tackle the wee section of the logging branch-line that disappears into the mountain, never to be seen again...

Moose now has to carefully walk through train room what with nearly all of the removable scenic sections removed to access the track under the mountain:

    2022 12 08 TrackClean 61.jpg

And Moose goes to work abrading the track rails:
    2022 12 08 TrackClean 62.jpg

Then on to cleaning the rails with a isopropyl alcohol-soaked cloth:

Moose went back into the train room to lightly rub down the rails of those areas where Moose had applied the NO-OX-ID-for-you a couple of days ago...

    2022 12 09 TrackClean 71.jpg

And ... ... ... to use the area under the mountain to secretly wrap presents for Mrs Moose. Bwaaa! (insert sneaky moose laugh here)
