Default New member introducing myself -- interested in Chicago area belt line railroads

    Hi,

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Clif Linton and I live in the San Francisco area. I am an N-Scaler interested in Chicago-area Belt lines.

I am constructing a layout based on the B&OCT and Belt Railway of Chicago, based in the 1960s and 1970s. At this point trackwork is about 80% complete. I have one more extension to build.

I will post some photos in a followup to this post.

I grew up in the north suburbs of Chicago -- and saw C&NW bi-level commuter trains as I walked to school daily. Ah -- those cars have been repainted and retired. I have loved trains and model trains my entire life -- and believe that this interest was cultivated by my father's mother -- who lived in a railroad town on the Illinois Central.

I moved to the Washington DC area as a kid, but returned to Chicago as an adult -- when I had more time to railfan and get deeper into modelling.

Life took me to California and I have a great family and a garage -- (that's California equivalent of a basement -- but there are unencumbered air rights.)

I participate in a round-robin group and we are working on several layouts. I'm trying to get track laid so I can be ready for the spring operating sessions here in the Bay area.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone on the list. I have a lot to learn about this scale -- having started originally in HO.

    But, it is all fun.

    Regards,

    Clif Linton

    Welcome Aboard!

I like your time frame - I model 1971 specifically, so I'm always on the lookout for late 60's era stuff. But in terms of geography, I model about as remote as one can get from your mega-urban prototype. So my insight into how to represent the wilderness of West Virginia may not be that valuable! There are several folks hanging out here, though, who are doing urban scenery and northern Illinois, and seeing their work sometimes make me a bit envious.

Cliff welcom aboard. As others said we love pictures here. Reaching the required post before post pictures is very easy given the wide variety to train related topics we discuss.

Hi Cliff and Welcome. I also chose Chicago as a location to model, specifically the BNSF in the 'lumber district' and am building a switching layout based on that area.
please keep us updated on your progress, always like looking at photos.
