So for instance a boat may come in to Long Beach with 20% 20's, but half of those are used locally in the LA area, so the folks railfaining the trains going on Chicago or Dallas will only see 10% 20's in the train consist.

And of course, containers off the boat are only a fraction of the shipping. Plenty of 48's and 53's in the US are shipped back and forth internally only, further reducing the amount of 20's per train.

Basically, still really popular for international shipping, but if you're looking from a domestic railfan perspective probably more like 3-5% is my guess.

It varies though. But I have noticed that there are definitely more loaded 20'ers leaving the US than arriving in the US.

So I was doing some googling but not finding a good cheap source for these containers. Who's selling them at the best prices?

I bought mine from Walthers.com but they had a monthly Flyer sale on them at the time. N Scale Supply looks like they have the best prices on them currently.

I contacted them directly but I think their minimum order is 100. I'll see how the cost works out, and if it would be economical to have someone buy a ton of them and the distribute them at cost among interested members.

Seems the minimum order is only 50. I think a few of us could take care of that. I'll get pricing/shipping info and run the numbers.

Interesting...how much would the 50 cost? Could you get a variety?

Thanks Steve. I've subscribed to that thread in case there is movement in the future. I'd be in for part of a group buy to help the effort.
