My question is, where are the Southern high hoods I've already ordered through my LHS?

Yeah, it would be nice if they actually delivered a product before announcing another 2 runs of it :P

Is it just me or is this getting a bit ridiculous, they've announced about 50 different SD40-2 roadnames now and I have yet to see one....

    Hmmm, mighty good question, Tim.

But good news: You can always get an obscure roadname such as Nebraska Central!

How many people out there model the NCRC? That is a bold move! Way to go IM!

I remember seeing pre-production samples months ago. They have to be close on the first run.

It seems to me that they are waiting (giving people time to order) to make sure they get enough orders in to do certain schemes.

Not sure I understand. If it was your money, would you spend a lot of it producing a product that would sit in inventory and maybe never sell or maybe sell at cost? Unless you had money to piss away, my guess you would do the same thing.

Board game companies will usually always have a pre-order number, but you at least have an idea if that pre-order is going to met or not by the count they provide. The only thing I see missing is a little more communication on what their pre-order number is so it goes to production and ships.

Kato, Atlas, Bachmann generally don't do that.

Well they may have a more mature business model and balance sheet that can take more risk for one, and number two, they don't produce road names like Nebraska Central either.** It is about mitigating the risk of coming out with obscure product names that may or may not sell. Rather than take all the risk, they want to understand it up front. I would rather have companies like this test the market waters with some obscure products that can be found nowhere else than be treated to the next DASH-8 version with BNSF, UP, CN and NS on the side each and every time a new product is released. A little hyperbole there, but more of the point is having a good mix of these companies providing new products to the hobby is a good thing and not someone that should have rounds thrown downrange at them. If they ultimately produce a crappy product or don't deliver on promises, then they will eventually find the door on their own.

    My $.02's. YMMV

**Hell, I grew up in Nebraska and had to look them up on Wiki to see who they were after I saw the post. That is pretty obscure.

I'll be pre-ordering the RCPE's for sure. Do want. Curious that they announced ICE and RCPE but no DME yet!

I'm not interested until the Genesee & Wyoming SD40-2 is offered in G&D lettering.

I love my IM cars, but how are their locos? The BC rail is tempting, but I've heard mixed things about IM's locos (beyond them simply never arriving). Obviously the detailing is amazing, but I hear they don't run as nice as atlas let alone kato.

I have 2 of their SD45-2's and they run amazingly smooth and they can creep. I haven't DCC'd them yet but plan to sometime in the near future

So holding out for 3-4 years until you have enough orders is acceptable and no mention to customers who have prepaid for them is also acceptable? No its not.

Their hand rails are pitiful. Look at them and they don't break - they shatter.

I have 4 tunnel motors and none have complete hand rails and IM are happy to tell me that *MAYBE* December I maybe able to order replacements.. that was December last year I asked them.

You mean they've already taken your money? I'm willing to pre-order to help small manufacturers gauge demand, but handing over cash before the goods actually exist seems a little risky.

Rapido also asked for pre-orders on its GMD-1s, but my credit card wasn't charged until they were actually shipped. (Unfortunately the price was significantly higher than the number quoted when I pre-ordered, because a sudden drop in worldwide oil prices caused the CDN $ to drop just a few weeks before the locomotives were delivered. Which apparently somehow drastically increased the cost of producing the model -- costs which were incurred over the previous year and a half, long before the currency crisis).
