And today, I took some time to video a couple of trains, too. Needed the break from all the stresses going on just now. I also noted that they have been building a 'something' out here on the east end.Maybe the east yard lead is going to get extended to accommodate the 'super-trains' they are running more of?

    PIC_0577.jpg

First was a westbound H or M train, with some unusual cars and power,

And after he cleared the east lead upon entering the yard, which is a 10mph limit, this coal train exitted the yard from 2 track and crawled east. You will hear radio chatter from the H or M train now working a setout on the west end of the yard.

Have a friend that can let me in on train movements, just got to love the little birdy tweetin away!

Anyway, heard this coal train was going east, so headed to Hodges to check my clients place, AND get the coal train going uphill! Takes 45 minutes for me to get there and check things, and about an hour for them to get to Hodges. Perfect! Found a good new spot to try for an early morning overview with good lighting, and waited. And waited. An hour went by, so I knew something wasn't right. On my way back to town, I didn't see them, but finally heard radio chatter. Seems like the 1593 was giving them wheelslip issues! So, after fussing around for an hour more, they got permission to back the entire train back into town and onto the same yard track they left from. NOT a common occurrence! There's some radio chatter going on as they back in, and some interesting noises, enjoy!

And a few pics from on my way out of town as it was preparing to leave,

And more of the Canucks's power being kept captive! When in the coal train 'loop' they can get kinda lost to the world....

Saw this same power on eastbound coal on the 3rd of April, and yesterday was the 8th, so it is a 5 day turnaround from load up, unload and back to being loaded up.

Yesterday heavy snow caused this coal train to stall on it's first attempt at Beaver Hill. My guess is that the 'Trip Optimizer' wouldn't allow the train to build enough speed and/or get enough HP to get a good run at the rise. So, they backed the train up ten miles or so to the bottom of the hill, and here we see the crew blowing by in notch 8 and they make it!

After that, I hightailed it back to town, sort of, through a bit of snow,

    PIC_0104.jpg

And was rewarded with seeing the tail of an empty crawl into a yard track with this lost KCS ,

    PIC_0106.jpg

After which, my friend had told me also, that a 14,400 ft train was eastbound as soon as the coal train cleared the hill,

What a fun day!!! Then, by the end of the day, it had melted away into the dirt, now mud! Which we desperately needed, and are thanking God for! So, these 40-2's were just too tempting to drive by,

    PIC_0112.jpg

All in all, another interesting day in the 'Pumpkin Patch!'

A couple of videos. Two different M or H trains from this fall. There is now a 10mph limit while exiting the yard and a 40mph mainline track speed, max. All in the name of saving fuel. It does make for some good long train watching though!

    Got a nice couple of video's last night of an empty getting set to leave westbound. First, the power attaching to the train;

And then a while later, after standing in the cold and listening to their radio chatter about a mile west of town, they made their pull. There are quite a few flat and / or spalled wheels in the train, and some other radio chatter as the crew in town is working up another empty.

More of that good ole ice fog,
    PIC_0155.jpg

I took that photo at about 0915 yesterday. Then at about 1415, on our way to Miles City, we caught the grain train on one track, the NS unit closest to the camera, on it's way west at a great and favorite location to catch a train!
