Absolutely true. They will still be changing crews here. And we have some very busy local work with a gravel pit, oil field support industry. An active car shop in Miles City which generates work for the local, along with something else over there, that I can't remember. And Sidney generates work with oil field and sugar beet plant work plus ag chemicals. It is going to be interesting to see how they work out the power issues with the local stuff and fueling, etc. Service and repairs will be a LOT further away. Today I am looking at about 14 running units out here and a stack of stored units.

As usual, the railroad is always in flux!

Yesterday morning, early, I still had coffee in hand, This stack train was heading east. It is a stiff pull out of town, even from the mainline. Beaver Hill is ahead of them, that grade starts in about 3 miles, and it stays stiff for 20 or so. I wonder if this train stalled out or just crawled over the summit at minimum speed. hmm. Didn't have time to chase it, as we had a long day of digging dirt and breaking concrete up.

After a long day I was heading home near 2100 (9 pm) this mixed freight was sliding into town. I recently got permission to rake pictures and video from a business lot, so here's a different view. There are about 4 different J-D tractors at the guys shop also.

Coal! Still here a little bit, most every day.

Then late yesterday, this freight that was in the background of the coal trains, finally got a crew and clearance to leave,

Three, yes three, coal trains in town at once! And all moving! The near one on 2 track is pulling in to a stop. The middle empty is exiting town off 1 track and the load is leaving off the main!

The last day of June and we had rain, which was nice and needed. This empty coal train was set to leave town, so I quick parked and got some of it, til my battery died....

The last day of June this blade train was eastbound out of town. It had an SD75i as trailing unit. Fun to watch!

Oh, and today is the last day the Glendive roundhouse is open. Won't be any body there tomorrow working on any locomotives. In fact most all the toolboxes have been in the scrap dumpsters for a week. And all the tools also. The SF doesn't sell stuff, just scraps it all. Wasteful idiots. Led by fear of lawsuits or whatever.

Anyway, the trains are still rolling through regularly, all kinds of different trains. Yay!

We have a company over here that scraps whole locomotives, just so an opposition company cannot purchase them. Might be common sense business practice, but heart breaking to see our rail history and iconic old loco's just destroyed, it is corporate vandalism.

The scrap metal dealer here told me that they are worried more about potential lawsuits. Somebody getting hurt with their used tool or part and suing the RR. Which should be a no brainer to get thrown out of court. But not these days.

Heck, the SF is very aggressive at that themselves. A fella got killed at a RR crossing. The RR laid a suit on the family for damages next day! Kept it in place until they were shown to be at fault. Soooo..... they do think in these lawsuit happy terms.

Here's pics of the hatchet car for inspection.

@badlandnp thought you may find this interesting or sad, which ever way you look at it, after reading your post the other day. I cannot place the link, but if you google on youtube-Pacific National scrapping A class locomotives at South Dynon. These were the original diesels that i just loved as a kid, and started my interest in trains. Have a good weekend, and stay safe.
