Default What is YOUR favorite roadname? Do you have a second favorite?

Just wondering what roadname people like and if they have a secondary favorite.

Curious if the secondary is local to the main favorite or if it is from a totally different geographic area or even ERA.

I like the Pennsylvania Railroad, but also enjoy the Lehigh Valley, Erie Lackawanna and Reading lines as they are local.

I always liked Burlington Northern, Milwaukee Road and Soo Line railroads as well.

Can't wait to hear some responses!

Do you mean favorite railroad, or favorite name regardless of feelings about the actual company?

I don't know if it is my favorite, but 'Atcheson, Topeka, and Santa Fe' will always have a warm spot in my heart.

The name sort of rolls off your tongue easily.
(The voices I hear in my head may not be real, but sometimes they come up with a good idea.)

    Have fun.

Especially since there was a song of the same name!

BTW, it is my favorite as well!

Conrail and Pennsy are my two favorites. Otherwise my secondaries are Penn Central and Denver and Rio Grande Western.

    C&O / B&O / WM

I am also extremely partial to N&W

None are local as I am a Canadian, but I did marry a sweet lil red head from Maryland, so I guess that's a given for the favs.

I would say Canadian National because that is what we have in this part of the world. Second, I would say Canadian Pacific. They serve(d) a lot of secondary lines around here that CN did not handle.

That's funny, I'm planning to model my fiancee's hometown...
Anyway, I like western roads. There are eastern and midwestern paint schemes that I'm fond of like Rock Island, NYC, Southern (Black and white, of course) and B&O, but I can't help but love CP, GN, BCR, DRGW, and SP (I suppose in that order)

Hrm... Favorite road... What to choose...

    Pennsylvania Railroad all the way!

Second would be the Denver, South Park, and Pacific (how's that for a contrast). Also, by association, the Colorado Central and Colorado Southern.

Runners up would be the Norfolk and Western, Baltimore and Ohio, and Western and Atlantic.

Building America. My second choice would be the Chicago and Northwestern or the Rock Island.

B&O! Because is was local AND my grandfather worked there. Then C&O and Chessie by default. Also Illinois Central, because my grandmother's brother, Uncle Charlie. worked for them.
Sad, when my mom passed away, we were cleaning out the house and found around 50-60 employe newsletters. I didn't have the space to store them nor could find anyone that wanted them, so they got tossed..

As for modern lines, I'd have to go with BNSF, NS and CSX..

Mine would be the CB&Q (Burlington Route) and the Great Northern (GN). Both prior to the merger.

I live in UP country and I fell in love with the UP Flag and started planning everything around UP.

The only problem I had was the CA EPA made it almost impossible to keep those locos clean by putting very strict restrictions on their wash machines. I guess the ones up north that are running out of state and in rainy areas donít have a problem, but by the time they have make their way down through CA to the desert they are dirty and I mean really dirty. There must have been some changes in the past years because Iíve noticed they are a little cleaner.

Anyway lately Iíve been fascinated with Santa Fe and BNSF. My job takes me over in to the Barstow area a couple of times a month and I see so many trains that I want to live there. Iíve even been playing with the idea of renting a motel room along the track for the weekend just to do a little Rail fanning.

A few days ago I got this photo of a UP on the BNSF tracks and also a Santa Fe, so now I donít have any problem running all my trains on my Layout.

Well Im an Aussie so my locals are QRNational and Pacific National (names purely coincedental)
As for Canada and America, not knowing much Ive gone by the colour schemes, Im an easily pleased guy when it comes to colour and overall loco shape,
SF warbonnet is No1 as I had a HO F7 warbonnet as my first when i was 6, was packed away, but never forgotten as i still use it today (OMG)
Next is pretty much all BNSF as I love the combinations of colour then theres CP (the red stands out for me) UP and all the mergers that come with it, CSX dark future NS and Chessie all come next,
put simply.. I LOVE EM ALL!!!
