    Default Container crane for ship-loading

Perhaps this should go under the "New Products" heading, but I thought that folks modeling modern waterfront scenes might like to see this. I just came across this ship loading crane on Shapeways last night.

Wish I could do a large layout!

$199...eek! I don't know. I can do a lot of kit bashing for that amount.

I recently did a design for a museum and we are looking into the feasibility of making the crane a kit. What would everyone pay for something like this?

A kit would be worth $100 at least. It depends on the details- if there are etchings or other cast elements, that would be welcome and increase the price.

I'd pay $100 for a kit; $150 if it was motorized to lift and lower containers; $250 if it was motorized to lift containers, and the trolley moved on the gantry. Don't tell my wife.....

If it was a kit, I think motorizing it would be viable. The 3D print probably would be more hassle to clean up and convert. I'm with you though, a kit like this would probably change my modeling future!

I know Baldylox was working on one of these massive cranes too. I saw his test prints and I think he decided to create a hybrid kit that is partially printed and partially styrene. Using styrene can add strength to the fragile prints.
