    PRESS RELEASE

N SCALE ENTHUSIAST AND TROVESTAR LAUNCH CLASSIFIEDS ADVERTISING PLATFORM
Peer-to-peer, fixed-price marketplace to facilitate buying and selling of N Scale items

June 21, 2017, Pittsburgh, PA – The N Scale Enthusiast Society (NSE), an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation of the history of N Scale model railroading and the railroads they represent, and the TroveStar N Scale Model Trains Database, today announced the launch of the N Scale Enthusiast - TroveStar Classifieds.

The on-line Classifieds officially launches on July 1, 2017 and will offer any buyer an exciting, new way to purchase interesting, quality and out-of-production N Scale items directly from trusted on-line sellers. The Classifieds’ peer-to-peer format is a fixed-price marketplace and not an e-commerce site. It is intended as an alternative to the auction process; buyers can now click and purchase the item they want, and no longer have to wait and see if they have ‘won’ it. All are welcome to use the website for information and to purchase any item on offer.

As part of its membership package, NSE members will now have the exclusive right to offer items for sale in the N Scale Enthusiast - TroveStar Classifieds. This platform will make it easier for the NSE’s more than 1,900 members to sell excess inventory to anyone. Buyers will need to register (at no-cost) with TroveStar, the platform host.

The Classifieds will offer NSE members an easy and straightforward way to list and price N Scale inventory for sale. The TroveStar N Scale Model Trains Database, which currently features 40,000+ locomotives, rolling stock, structures and accessories, will provide NSE members with all the reference data (manufacturer, road name, road number, release date and sales data) and images needed to describe and list an item for sale. So what makes it different from forums or Fakebook sites that already have n scale sale items?

They get a fee for listings that sell through their service.

I would be beyond shocked if they didn't throw fees on the listings they host.

Didn't know there was a big N scale group in Pittsburgh, might have to look into it.

With 730+ items, the N Scale Enthusiast/TroveStar Classifieds keeps growing.

Just added 70+ trains, mostly collector’s items (Special Runs by MTL, Atlas, Deluxe Innovations, N. Am. Railcar and InterMountain) commissioned by the NSE.

Pricing = significant discount vs e-bay & NSE auction.

    No fees to buy.

You must be an NSE member to sell.

    Hmmmm
Not a easy site to navigate. Had troubles finding the browsing page once there without using the link provided below.

Here is a link to the Classifieds.
    http://www.trovestar.com/general/sho...p?Collection=4
Once I found the browse page, looking for something somewhat specific wasn't too bad.
I found something, placed it in my basket/cart. Continued to checkout, HA! They want me to commit to buy before I see what the seller is charging for shipping. I don't think so! Unless I'm missing something? Call me gun shy from eBay and sellers wanting to charge overbloated shipping fees.

So I went back looking for anything about shipping fees, didn't find anything. Unless there is something under each seller and not on their item listing?
When I couldn't find that, I tried to go back to the cart to see if I could remove the item, I couldn't find a direct link to MY CART? WTH?

    Finally stumbled onto it.
I think unless there is something I can't live without, I'll pass, thanks anyway.
    Good idea, but needs refining.

Given the prevalence (and success) of Facebook sales groups (N-scale ones I am in have several thousand members) I don't think this is a necessary additional platform -- not enough critical mass. Just create a FB sales group if you do not like Ebay fees. Actually I think I am seeing a bunch of the same items on here -- powers sellers post everywhere to catch the most eyeballs.

Here is an update (March 6, 2018) regarding the NSE/TroveStar Classifieds.

8 Reasons to Check out the N Scale Enthusiast/TroveStar Classifieds

The NSE / TroveStar Classifieds is a peer-to-peer, fixed-price marketplace for n-scale folks who want to buy and / or sell locos, rolling stock or accessories.

    1. Peruse more than 1,165 items for offer
    2. Find a variety of new and used items, including collector’s items (Special Runs by MTL, Atlas, Deluxe Innovations, N. Am. Railcar and InterMountain) commissioned by the NSE
    3. Enjoy “one-click listing” functionality. Sellers (NSE Members) list items by simply using the reference data, descriptions and images from an existing database item on TroveStar
    4. Be part of a the n-scale marketplace that more and more sellers join on a regular basis
    5. Find items for sale as low as $3.00
    6. Take advantage of pricing that is a significant discount versus eBay.
    7. No fees for buyers; NSE members get to list their first 25 items as part of their membership benefits (further listings cost dramatically LESS than eBay)
    8. Participate in a marketplace that continues to grow (hundreds more items will be listed in coming weeks)

You can learn more about the the NSE / TroveStar Classifieds when you read N-TRAK Newsletter's Q&A with N-Scale Enthusiast’s George Johnsen about the NSE / TroveStar Classifieds (November/December 2017).

I gotta say, when it first came out it was great, good prices and good sellers. Looking back now it looks terrible, there's an MT 3 bay covered hopper listed for well over 200 dollars. Somebody let that one 50 bucks a car guy from ebay in and now there's tons of listing of unreasonably priced items, wading through those to find decent deals is a royal PITA. There should be an option on the user's end to exclude certain sellers from the general listing to avoid sellers you don't like

Wanted to let folks know that Appin House, one of the sellers on the N Scale Enthusiast - TroveStar Classifieds, just lowered prices (by 15% to 25%) on hundreds of items. These are permanent price changes!
