    Default Easy Railroad Inventory

    Hi all

I'm hoping some of you guys with a little PC knowhow will be able to help. I have the Easy Railroad Inventory database on an old laptop of mine, which is going to go pop any day now. I have all my stock saved in this, but have no idea if I can transfer all the data across to my new laptop.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to download a new copy of this as the website has closed down. Can anyone help? I have over 500 items on the database, and I really hope I don't have to input it all again.

    Many thanks.

EMRI has a new home, v8.5 is available at: https://pdc.ca/rr/freebies/
(Disclaimer: I've never used the program, as it's for Windows only)

It has a facebook page, it is now being maintained by Bill at Precision Design Co. The former owner of the software died a few years ago.

Thanks for that guys, that helps for the first stage. I've been able to download the program with its empty database to my new computer now. What I really need now is how to get to the database in my old computer. What is its name, how do I access it, and how can I transfer it to a USB drive and reinstall it into my new computer? Can anyone help please?

I have never used this program. If it being maintained by someone with a facebook page, you could ask them the name of the database file you need to grab to transfer it to the new computer.

Just went to their Facebook page. There is a place to send a message, and it says they typically reply within one day. I'd go there for info.

When I installed the software on a windows machine the program created a directory. On my computer the directory is RCLTrains. Look in the directory for a
file manual.pdf . This has information on how the program works. I tried it once but never mastered the program so I am not much help for you.
    Hope this helps.

Once again, I've never used the program, but the manual (sections IX and X) mentions Export and Import features.

I suggest you export the data in a "delimited ASCII" format (as the manual calls it), copy that file to your new computer, and then import that file there.

Attempting to copy the database file itself and directly open it with the new version might or might not work, depending on whether the program was designed to be that far backwards compatible.

Andy, I no longer use the EMRI program, but I did successfully transfer it between Windows PCs in the past. As Doug mentioned, there should by a folder on your C Drive called RCLtrains. I copied the entire folder onto a flash drive, and then uploaded onto the new PC. As I recall it was a pretty smooth process.

Thanks for the advice guys. My first attempt was not too successful. I just ended up with an Excel spreadsheet full of information, which won't import to the new copy of the program. I'll try again later. I'm a bit disenchanted with it all at the moment!
