Default (Springfield) Amherst Railway Society 50th Railroad Hobby Show,January 27th-28th,2018

50th edition this year!, the (Springfield) Amherst Railway Society Railroad Hobby Show in West Spring field,MA

Bigger then before with over 60 operating layouts (last year was a bit over 50!)

This is a big weekend of train for the Northeastern train hobbyist...

Who are planning to stop by this show? I will be present at section 65 of the Better Living Center building with the Northeast N TRAK group layout running trains.

    See you there!

I'll be there alongside the South Shore Model Railway Club, an HO Scale Club from Hingham, Mass. We're at 51 in the BLC, right beside the NRHRTA. Feel free to drop by and say hello!

Right now, virtually everything I do is made-to-order. I'd like to get to the point where I have some "inventory" and could go to a show like the Big E with a display or sales table. But that's further down the road. Gonna need to sell a LOT of models to pay for that weekend...haha

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm... haven't been there in years... SO many people............ we used to drive over, say "too busy", then head on over to Smith & Wesson :l: But their range is now closed to the public.

For those who are attending for the first time, make sure you take a look at the CSX yard across the street! ALSO, the old station has been restored and is again open.

by open again you mean public access? does it have historic stuff inside like museum or is it more of a visitor center like in WRJ?

Is it possible to see everything comfortably in one day? Not sure I want to find accommodation for an overnight stay or have to make the 6+ hr round trip twice.

No unless you just rush past everything you will not see it all in one day. Last year I didn't book an overnight stay and it was my 4th time, though it was after a 5+ year hiatus. You would think I know better? I ended up driving back the next day. I'm in northern NJ and it take me about 2.5 hour each way, so total 10 hour driving that weekend. Yep, shoud have booked a hotel.

Guess what I'm doing for this year??? But I've also signed up for Winterfest so I've book two nights of hotel.

Physically, yes, it's possible to walk through the entire show in a day.
I go with a vendor, so I'm in Friday night, plus access Saturday & Sunday. And I've occasionally said to myself "Darn, I never made it to so&so's booth this year...."

This is their 50th, so its a bigger setup than last year (officially over 9 acres now) and has virtually completed filled the 4th building, which they weren't even using ten years ago. I can't stress to people who have never been just HOW BIG this actually is.

The biggest challenge for you may be finding a hotel. We typically book our rooms for next year when checking out this year.

But just checking the long range forecast and it looks like we are in the clear. No freezing temperatures too!
