Maybe this should go under "Motive Power - Steam" then?

Ok just to be a bit different (and because I do not want to get all my American steamers out) I am posting my European and Japanese steam engines...

    Tony:

'Wombats?' Not 'Wombii?' (as in one Wombat, two Wombii etc), especially as there are apparently 457 of you...

    (Just wondering... )

    Mac,

That is a lot of Steamers Mac, and very nice looking ones as well. Steamers are steamers, no matter where they are from ... they all hold a romantic atmosphere.

    Komata,

Maybe "wombii" is more appropriate - I have a BIG family!
    Cheers Tony

I became curious as to what a grouping of wombats (wombii?) were called. Turns out that a group of wombats is called a "wisdom". A wisdom of wombats.

    Thought that I would share!

I'm not allowed to run the train, the whistle I can't blow. I'm not allowed to say how fast the Railroad Train can go.
I'm not allowed to shoot off steam, nor even clang the bell. But let the damned Train jump the track, and see who catches hell!

And a Model Power / MRC 2-8-2 that I lettered for the Spokane, Portland and Seattle:

SP&S didn't actually have any USRA Mikados (537 was a hand me down W3 from Northern Pacific), but it's close enough for now.

    Lightbulb

I picked this one up off of eBay a while ago, because it was nice and unique:

See photos of the original owner's layout here:

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

Part of being jointly owned by the GN and NP meant that the SP&S for most of its existence was dependent on its parents for locomotives and major right of way rehab (major tie and rail replacement, etc.).

The cycle was every five years -- NP, GN, NP, GN. Purportedly, when NP had the burden, the SP&S had decent steam locomotives but track maintenance left something to be desired -- just enough to satisfy the ICC. When GN was in charge, the locomotives were GN's marginal performers, but the track structure was in great shape.

Kiwi's would of course be honour-bound to dispute the use of the word 'wisdom'...

Right now, I have a 2-8-8-0 and a 2-8-0 disassembled on the work bench. When I get them put back together I'll snap a picture of the entire roster and post it.
