The $85 gets you access to all the clinics, as well as the train show when the public doesn’t have access. It is well worth it for access to the conference. It is far more than just a train show. In fact the train show was one of the smaller components of the one I went too. I think there were only 4 layouts. Chicago should have a larger number of layouts to draw from, as well as some great clinic options.

Agreed, the $85 registration is well worth it, the tough part to swallow is the hotel room if you stay on site.

Salt Lake City was my first convention and I had a great time. I was there for every day of the convention, leaving early Sunday morning. The only thing I did not take part in was a clinic as the only one I was interested in was during a layout tour I scheduled.

I met a lot of great people and modelers, and the NSE "staff" was always accessible and great to chat with as well. I heard a lot of grumblings from former participants that the banquet would not be fun, but I enjoyed that as well. The atmosphere with the raffle, pretty good food, and sitting and chatting with folks you've met through the week was great. I also had a blast watching the auction. The train show was definitely slower the second day as I had already been through it early before the general public. But I did pick up some great deals at the end, particularly from Charlie Hopkins, when folks were packing up and didn't want to take stuff home.

You also get to meet folks you've only conversed with online. The FreemoN group at Salt Lake City was very inviting and let folks bring their own equipment to run, I spent a lot of time with a throttle in my hand.

I met Rick Brodzinsky there, and he let my friend and I have pretty much free reign with his club's layout. In addition, he helped me determine which two solder points I should use to solder caps to the new ESU LokSound Select Direct Micro to. I owe that man a beer or glass of wine!

You meet some neat people there!

Just under a month to go till the convention. Who all plans on being there? I'll get in town some time on the 25th and leave on Sunday then on to the NMRA national train show in Salt Lake City. Hope to see some of you there. Drop by my booth or room and say hi and check out the new kits.

I'll be there. Got my hotel and airline all set. I usually go to the NMRA convention, but decided to do this one this year.

We will be there some time on the 25th. Come up to the room and check out all the new kits and then will be in the public show on Friday and Saturday also.
Then on to the NMRA national train show in Salt Lake city . Going to be a fun filled (lots of driving 5000 miles+-) few weeks.

Damn, I'll be ON a train... coming back from Montana!

Stogie, welcome to Wisconsin. We'll have to get together. I'm < 2 hrs from Milwaukee...depends on what side of town you'll be on. I work in Oshkosh -- heavy CN town with a smidge of Wisconsin Southern. I live 3 miles from the old C&NW Marshline ROW at Neshkoro, and about 10 miles due east from the old Soo Line "P-Line" ROW at Liberty Bluff (about where the Rest Area is on I-39 between Westfield and Coloma).

If anyone knows where I can get one of those nifty N Scale Trainworx Coors trucks for under $90, please let me know. Hopefully I'll find one in Chicago!

Tried to copy a picture of the flyer that was in the email but didn’t work so I copied the link to it hopefully it works. It is a flyer for the convention with admission prices and hours.

Anyone know where the 2020 convention is? It has to be on the East Coast next year.

Last year they announced during the Welcome Reception on Wednesday night, I'm sure it will be the same, so we've got a couple days to wait.
