Default 2019 National N Scale Convention in Chicago

Next year's convention will be in Chicago for the second time. Even though it's just less than a year away, I can't wait for this one! I don't know the dates of this (usually in late June). Anyone have any dates yet?

Wow. I know where I'm going for my birthday next year! It's only about a 3 hour drive!

I saw somewhere that it will be held at the Crown Plaza hotel right outside of O'Hare (also saw mentioned that the hotel has a free shuttle to the terminals). Those hotels generally charge a fee for parking overnight, which in addition to the high rental car prices at O'Hare, make renting a car somewhat less than desirable. If I were going, and wanted to see more of the Chicago area, I would skip the rental car for the entire week and just shuttle back to the airport, rent one for a day, and then return it and get shuttled back to the conference hotel.

Hmmmm. I need to be in Michigan the 27th through 30th. We'll be pulling a travel trailer. Looks like the 26th could be a possibility. Also, one of my favorite suppliers of German trains is in Elburn, Illinois. I've never been to Ray's and Roman's shop.

They are just up the road, less than 100 miles from Chicago. I would consider that "easy to show up".

It is a nice shop for those interested in European kits and trains. I visited there last year for the first time, although I think I visited their shop when it was in Lombard back in the 90s.

If we can put together a layout tour for nscale.net members, I might have to finish my layout and convince the Reid Brothers to be on the tour. Maybe we could put together our own shuttle bus.

@ChicagoRail, up for a layout tour?

Has anyone confirmed the hotel will be the Crown Plaza? Also, any good hobby shops there?

America’s best hobby and trains in Itasca,Des Plains hobby in Des Plains are fairly close to Ohare and have a good N Scale selection. If coming down from the North there is Rons Hobby shop I n Mundeline and Antioch models and trains in Antioch IL. These are the one that I frequent.

    Default Fly to Chicago?

Fly to Chicago? I'll take the train. Overnight Charlotte to Washington, overnight again to Chicago. Might detour out or back to visit my daughter in Philadelphia.
