    Default Magne-Matic Question

    Hi All!!

How do I determine what time of coupler I need to purchase to replace my existing couplers so I can use magnetic decoupling? How do I know if I already have Magne-Matic decouplers on my cars??

    Thanks!!

    Ben

If your couplers do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A6z4kdjUVQ when you run them over a magnet, they are ready for magnetic uncoupling

Then read this: https://www.nscaledivision.com/infor...n_couplers.htm for a quick introduction with pictures - as long as you have knuckle couplers, they are supposed to be compatible (although IMHO MTL are the best...)

And if you decide to go for MTL couplers, then check this page: https://www.micro-trains.com/index.p...ormation_id=10 and the conversion sheets on it.

Or just buy a bunch of 1015s and 2004s, some self-tapping screws of 1...1.2mm diameter and 4...8mm in length and screw them underneath everything you get between your fingers.

Or if you want to take the easy way out buy some replacement trucks - there it mostly matters that they look right compared to the ones you're replacing.

Oh, and don't let yourself be confused by the latest in coupler technology - those things called true scale couplers. They do look better, IMO, but they are not compatible with any other coupler nor do they uncouple magnetically...
