There's quite a few flat or spalled wheels on this loaded coal train eastbound into Custer, MT.
Northern Pacific and Black Hills RR in N, of course!!

I rarely get out to trainwatch and we have only 1 train on Vancouver Island, but I did manage to catch it on the way home from work in Nanaimo. Its just dropped off Propane loads at a local dealer so its just a light engine move, but still, any train on the former Esquimalt and Nanaimo is a treat

I'm hoping one day to try and chase it around town as there are some really old fashioned looking scenes

More, please! What's not to like? Great paint scheme, the old mechanical gongs, early Geeps but low-nosed, on track that needs the undercutter and a surfacing gang!

I am glad to hear there's 1 train rather than 0 this year... rail service on Vancouver Island has been teetering on the brink of being lost forever for so many years now.

It still is teetering unfortunately, but there is still interest in keeping it around. I'm slightly heartened by the fact that there have been some upgrades at a few crossings recently, and I saw a railbarge here a little while ago (and unfortunately I had no camera and time! AARGH!)

I do wish there was more but I really have to make a concerted effort to try and chase this train as I can hear it from work and home!

I would love to see more videos of it very cool to see it going through what looks like neighborhoods on unmaintained tracks.

Got to be involved with the electrical upgrade of those 2 former MRL units back in 1995-6, and it is good to see them still running out there.

Here's a vid I took on Fathers Day morning of the Miles City local heading out,

Northern Pacific and Black Hills RR in N, of course!!
