    Default 2019 Prototype Photos Thread

I suggested the idea in a previous thread about having a yearly thread instead of quarterly, and it seemed to be ok with most people.

Got this interesting view of an empty string of well cars while on Christmas trip to Iowa. This is from an overpass at the east end of Denison, IA on the now UP former CNW main.

After nearly two months of lousy weather, we finally had a nice day yesterday, so I got out.

Last Thursday, April 4th, I snapped these photos of a trainload of mustaches on their way to Texas:

    2019-04-04 11.03.11.jpg

For the purist, here is the pusher engine:

    2019-04-04 11.00.51.jpg

This is the first time I'm trying to upload files directly from my computer, so it is an experiment. Usually I go through the process of uploading to PBucket then copying the URL.

Ah,yes, location! North -south route at Greenland Ranch, half way between Colorado Springs and Denver. The train is headed up-grade to the Palmer Divide, a minor east west ridge at about 7,500'. Palmer Divide separates the Platte River drainage from the Arkansas River drainage. The north bound tracks are 50 ft from the trail we were riding. No traffic, drat the luck (but the horses didn't mind ).
    Cheers!

And last week, on a breezy day, this guy was racing down the grade towards Glendive. Beaver Hill is a significant climb, and the reason for the NP to develop the mighty Yellowstone Locomotives.

Here is a different prototypical photo. These tracks are about an hour drive from me on my way up to visit my son at college. It is in Ft. Pierce, FL and it is outside a concrete plant. I have been wanting to grab a pic of them for use as a reference when I scenic my sanding track. I love the way the piles of sand flow onto the tracks. Thought you may like it, enjoy.

I've been on vacation the last 11 days, while I spent several days trackside I didn't do any huge trips. Most of my shots aren't too out of the ordinary, but I did manage to catch one of Union Pacific's Olympic Torch Relay units for the second time.
