    Default Rail Security Building???

    Hello all

Does anyone know what this building might be for: https://www.legacybuildingsolutions....rity-building/

It doesn't look very secure and you couldn't fit many cars in it so I assume that the cars are being scanned/checked for something as they pass through.
Ah, just checked the location on a map, Eagle Pass, Texas, so I assume it's something to do with cross-border traffic. Is that right?

I have seen similar looking buildings used for tank car loading. Some chemicals do not react well to any amount of water and as such the loading facilities for them require a covered loading area. Not sure that is the case here with this building but it looks very similar to loading facilities I have seen in the past, especially in some refineries in TX and OK.

    Hi Dragoon.

Yes, I've seen similar buildings for car loading.
I've had a chance to take a look at it with Google Maps now.
This building is just inside the border, in a fenced compound on the US side so I guess there's some kind of automated cargo scanner inside.

The building shown is owned by Duos Technologies. They are providing some kind of border crossing security.

Might be a scanner for nuclear weapons/materials. More than 10 years ago I almost got hired to work on a project to develop such a thing as Homeland Security was concerned about terrorists shipping a dirty bomb across the border by rail. At least that's what I was told during the interview. Man that would have been a cool job.

    Cool job indeed.

Having done some further reading it's actually pretty amazing what can be done now. They have rail car scanning machines that can differentiate between cars and locos to protect the crew and that can scan fast-moving trains for all kinds of things.
