    Default SD-40, better choice

I am looking for a SD40-2 with DCC sound. I have two possibilities:
    - Have a Kato SD40-2 for which I can add a MRC 1806 sound and control decoder?
    or
    - Have an Intermountain SD40-2 already with ESU loksound ?

I am not considering the price but just the materials.
    What do you advice?

Sorry I wrote my message in the wrong section. It must be in diesel not in steam.

Given the 2 choices as described

Intermountain ....hands down IMHO . Better sound , better motor control because of the better decoder , better details , and closer to the protoypes

did you know that if you run your sd-unit long hood forward
it looks a lot like a BDR 2-10-4 with the coal bunker at the back?

I would branch out for your options, if possible. First off, MRC sound decoders are utter crap. Terrible speakers, garbage sound files, pathetic motor control, few CVs.

The IMs' Loksound is so good that it's inspired a cult following - fantastic sound and motor control, with great customization options.

Kato units have arguably the best drives out there. They're solid for details and have great quality control. Intermountain's details look better, but they are hella fragile. Their SDs also ride offensively high! I own both, and prefer the Katos. If you install a Loksound direct micro in a Kato SD40, that would be the best option - though it would require a small amount of work since the locomotive isn't designed for it.

Thanks for your advice but for the moment I don't want to do work on the model to have the decoder fitting. I want something plug and play
So, that's a pity for MRC but I want something good.
I have an opportunity on an Intermountain SD-40. I am about to try, I think.

welp, I'd guess a steam sound decoder would enhance the illusion of the DBR steam engine....
