Does anyone know if MRC 1812 sound decoder fits in Atlas GP15?
    Thanks a lot.

there is a u-tube video of a gp38 with that decoder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6C7...hannel=Brandon. So does the gp15 use the same decoder as the gp38. I think that it does a a N12ao non sound
    decoder fits both.

I know these video. But I thought that GP15 has a frame shorter than other GP from Atlas like 38, 39 or 40.
But maybe I am wrong, and they are similar.

The N scale GP15-1's takes the shorter decoders, same ones for the GP7/9's and the GP30/35's.
Such as a Digitrax DN163A4, NCE N12A2 and TCS ASD4.

    Yes that is correct.
The 1812 does not fit the GP15-1, GP7/9/30/35 because it is meant for the longer 4 axle locos such as the GP38, 38-2, 39-2, 40, 40-2

It will fit. I have one mounted in Atlas SD9, which is 6 axle locomotive. But on TCS site they say you can fit a ASD4 non sound decoder in. They look the same. To be sure for info, look here. MRC site said is 1812 for shortest diesel. Look at the picture. If that is GP15, you are lucky.

Another important issue wit it. Remove the original 32ohm speaker, buy a sugar cube 8 ohm, and enjoy the sound. Original crap sound like crap. It will work, i replace more than 40 and no one decoder was burnt. If you still want this one. Personally, if i go back in time and i found Zimo at that period , i go with them.

But you decide what you want to do. Hard wire or drop-in decoder.

It will NOT fit, that picture is of a GP38/38-2, that loco takes the medium length boards.
The SD7/9 takes the medium length boards.

It does NOT state "The Shortest diesel" it says: "0001812 N DROP-IN: MOST SHORT ATLAS 4 AXLE DIESELS"

MRC can't even be bothered to list what exact locos their boards fit it . Makes sense tho , because even if they do fit they are crap with lot of problems . So why spend the time making a website if you can't make a decent decoder in the first place

Already it happened to me. Now to late to go on ZIMO, with more than 60 diesel loco to convert. From 60-70$ the price of MRC to this one: https://store.sbs4dcc.com/ZIMOMX660M...irewithLa.aspx Is not so much if you have one or few more. Zimo have the best back emf in the market today, far away from loksound. They will be the top one in market, only the glitch of Zimo it's the lack of sounds projects for the large spectrum of locomotives. Improved a lot if compared with past. MRC was a option at my starting point of converting. expensive for what they do and how sound, not really a drop in decoder in many cases. Last series of 1960 for narrow hood locomotives, sound pretty cool if replace the speaker with sugar cube one.

I have the feeling it is difficult to have real plug and play sound decoder.
I have the project to equip my Atlas GPs. I am not sure at it is a good idea.

What i can say. I own now 76 diesel loco, and except those with Paragon or Loksound, all are MRC. Is not the best, but was and is it the only almost drop in to fit in the body of Atlas, Kato or another. I can make consist with them, they are simple to operate, speaker have to be replaced immediate with sugar cube. I still buy MRC 1960 for my KATO SD70ACe, the last two purchased couple of days ago. Only a advice, do not go far with MRC, like me, will be hard to convert +50 locomotive with Loksound or Zimo. Better go straight with one good, in this hobby you can not stop so easy, you don't know how many locomotive you will buy in the future.
