Default Atlas re-runs of former Walthers toolings

    Hello,

You may not have noticed it, but for the 4th month in a row Atlas has been announcing 'new' models that are actually new runs of the former Walthers toolings that Atlas acquired in June last year; this also includes the former Life-Like toolings that Walthers itself acquired in 2005.

Atlas announcement of November 2018 for the former Life-Like FA-1/FB-1 and GP20 was already discussed in this thread on this forum.

I have made an inventory of Walthers freight cars and Life-Like locomotives in this article where I'm tracking the ones already re-run. As you can read, there is actually a quite good coverage of Walthers freight cars, but still a lot to do with the LL engines.

So let's see what will be next; unless someone on this forum already has some insights.

I have just added the USRA 0-8-0 to be complete. See revised article here.

I have however read on this forum that the tooling for this locomotive could have been 'lost' in China and therefore not part of the purchase by Atlas. Too bad if true .

    the 0-8-0.
the only loco I'd like Atlas to rework and revisit. I suspect they could make it an excellent model loco.

the other steam engines are pretty much 'no-brainers' to get up to snuff.

I just read through the list, and it looks like you might have missed the Alco FA2/FB2.

Not sure if you're including those with the FA1/FB1, but they actually were visually different.

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

Thank you for pointing at this. Yes actually we have not make the distinction and the very few FA2/FB2 that are currently in the database are listed as FA1/FB1.
I'll split in two separate body styles and update the list accordingly.

Sounds good if Atlas equips the locomotives with DCC sound.

Both locomotives already announced will be available with sound. So let's assume that next announcements will follow the trend.

This is becoming a routine now! Fifth announcement in the March 2019 All Scale Atlas Catalog:

Re-run of former Life-Like Alco RS-2 and Walthers 45' Logging Flat Car.

Paul Graf, CEO of Atlas confirmed this in a post on TheRailwire.Net on 14-March-2019.

The "other Steam" refers to the 2-8-4 Berkshire and the 2-8-8-2 Mallet.

In addition, the ALCo C424 was not owned by Walthers/LifeLike and Atlas did not get the tooling for it. Also confirmed by Paul Graf on August 13th, 2018

The 0-8-0 tooling was not located with the other tooling, so is not currently included with our purchase, however if/when it is located, provisions are in place for it to be transferred to Atlas.
