Default What freight car road names would one typically see...

...at industries served by conrail in mid 90s in PA?
Would the majority be conrail cars? Or would outgoing cars typically be conrail while incoming cars be pretty much anything depending on where the shipment was ordered from? Thank you!

CR, or course. Others were usually by the size of their car fleet, or UP, BN (or BNSF, merged in 1994), NS, CSX, CN, CP, KSC, ATSF.

Of course it's not all home road loads off and foreign cars in. If there was a load of widgets in Utah that needed to go to NJ, they'd probably load it in a CR car if there was a suitable car available. Search for "Car Service Rules" for more info on that.

By the 1990s, many cars were in assigned pools, with a group of cars assigned to a particular shipper. The road names of these cars was divided roughly in proportion to the distance of the haul on each road, but which car was selected for each shipment was more or less random among the cars in the pool.
