Nice hauls! Moose thinks youse two guys are trying to one up everyone with these purchases.
It's dangerous to leave me unsupervised in a LHS with my debit card... though the one I was at yesterday was closing so it was a now or never deal. My online order this week was kinda the same deal, some of the items I got are already out of stock!

It's definitely the most I've spent on models in a month, though the record is on books.
I guess a combination of good sales and free shipping from different vendors and a fear of missing out finally got to me.
I will probably dial back the rate of fleet expansion and focus more on my custom models for a while... the workbench has been idle for too long.

Well, I'll tell you at least. It's a Lehigh Valley Alco PA-1 to go with one I already have, though I need to renumber it. I am slowly working on custom-building a prototypical LV passenger train or two. Trying to slowly relearn CAD so I can make the custom carsides I need for certain cars.

I've been focused more on collecting, prototype research, and custom model builds than on layout-building and operation. That's on hold until I rebuild my basement.

Perhaps she is simply too young and naive?

Ending the month with a little more variety to my freight car roster.
I didn't have any gondolas at all, so I figured I needed some of those and as long as I was paying shipping, I added a few box cars - again picking other road names than I already have.

The UP caboose has been on the list for a while, so now I can run a proper UP freight train.
(I just realized the SCL gondola may be slightly off for my primary era, but that's one for the nitpickers to spot)

I didn't find much at the Ohio N scale Weekend, but I did manage to find some reasonably priced DCC ready Chessie and C&O engines.

I had a decoder laying around for the he SD-9, but the other two will have to wait until I get an order ready for their decoders.

I'm not allowed to run the train, the whistle I can't blow. I'm not allowed to say how fast the Railroad Train can go.
I'm not allowed to shoot off steam, nor even clang the bell. But let the damned Train jump the track, and see who catches hell!

Default Bought weathered twin pack, highly detailed but not perfect...

My first purchase of something actually manufactured new in this decade. The detail is really nice.
There was however an issue I will expose, in case someone else is thinking of buying this set.
As shown in the last two pictures of the box car, there was a problem with the body mounted couplers
and the little metal platforms on the end of the car. The coupler boxes were held on by little tiny bolster
pins and the boxes were not coming off the body straight, they had a slight upward tilt to them. The
tilting was causing the knuckle to hit the little "cat-walk" piece and was also an issue.

The shank parts were also sticking/binding very badly in the boxes as shown. The first thing I did was to break down
the car into parts, then tossed the tiny plastic pins holding the coupler boxes. Next I drilled and tapped the metal frame
and screwed down the coupler boxes to make them stick out straight and level. I put some graphite on the
internals of the couplers and worked them until burnished. Now that the couplers were returning to the center position
with out issue, I re-installed the trucks, put the frame and wheels on a piece of track and checked the coupler alignment
    with my coupler heights gage.

Before putting the plastic body back on the frame, I took some small tweezers and put
the slightest upward bend on the little "catwalk" piece to make sure the knuckle cleared when moved back and forth.

After paying top dollar, I would have been pretty pissed about having to make these corrections to a brand new product,
but I'm a raw greenhorn and must learn these skills at some point. I just decided to "git 'er done" and I'm happy, and after
all, that's what this is about right?
