Default Rod Stewart to donate 10,000 to a vandalized model railway club

    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-...shire-48332649

I had read that Rod Stewart was an avid model railroader. Good on him for stepping up.

I can't fathom the sort of mind that would perpetrate that sort of destruction just for the fun of it

I've seen this several places, it's crazy.

While it can't replace the time, I did ask my insurance if I was covered at these shows. At the time I was thinking more what if a fire burned the building, but I guess now I know this could happen as well. Much to my surprise I was told I was covered under my Home Owners policy, but the trick would be documenting what was lost. I got more serious about my inventory of rolling stock and locomotives after that, saving it in a spreadsheet in the cloud.

However, no amount of donations or insurance coverage can ever replace the time invested. That's lost, and too many of the affected folks in this case are old enough they will never rebuild.

Unbelievable. Horrific. Awful. And yet, so much goodwill comes of it. Bravo, Sir Rod. I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Holland and Mr. Daltrey also step up, indeed.

Okay, so maybe it's time to assess our album collections and buy another Rod Stewart one that we might not already own.

As for these unfathomably insidious youths, is it time for the scarlet letter treatment? So that in the coming years, when they are trying to interview for a job, they will get asked what that tattooed "A" on their forehead is all about, and they have to respond that it refers to a time when they acted like A... er, donkeys, and ruined the careful work of so many better humans?

I think I'm pretty much set there... about 3500 albums and counting.... but I get your drift.

Regarding these reprehensible yobs who did the deed, it would be idyllic to think of a world where they'd be pulled into the model railroad club and be reformed and transformed by the very hobby that was the subject of their crimes and would go on to be leading citizens and lifelong members of said club, but that would be far too naive to contemplate. A nice Biblical stoning using old Tyco trainsets and heavy, old school power packs would maybe be more in order. I have an old MRC Twinpower beast on my bench as a test unit that I'm looking at it right now and thinking about that sharp corner on the metal case hitting me square in the noggin after a good hurl....Yeah, that would do.

Well... the American belief of innocence until proven guilty. A criminal is a criminal. Old, young, black, white, green, blue or orange. Your generation has to get their lick in, OH THEY'RE YOUNG! MAKE NOTE OF THAT. If you want to see disrespect for somebody's work try to work with people in this day and age, you'll see disrespect, and you'll see who it comes from.

I don't understand where the generational thing is coming in, honestly. The story was reported as bad actions undertaken by young persons; in commenting on it I (and others) have referred to them as reported. The significance of my comments (and I believe of others) was to decry the badness of the actions, which would be equally as bad had they been perpetrated by retirees or any other demographic. Had the story been reported as offenses by geezers, then I'd have referred to "these unfathomably insidious geezers" in my comment, to speak specifically about those persons. Such a comment would not mean that geezers in general are a horrible demographic, but that those particular geezers are bad.

Fair enough. Admittedly, over the years I've lost more of my patience than I should have for 'those people' who jump straight to the blame game. As a result I can tend to pop off when I shouldn't have, you have my apologies.

    @Intermodalman

In case you didn't take the time to read the article , this is a direct quote from the article

Four youths were arrested on suspicion of burglary and criminal damage and have been released on police bail

this was very near the top of the article , so i do blame youth on this . Why was there a question on that ?

Speaking of geezers, can this thread get back to what Rod Stewart is doing?

I'm also blaming their parents for raising four undisciplined and irresponsible morons. Make them pay for the damage as well.

Can we bring back flogging, oh please, oh please. ...

Just kidding on that last thought (sorta).

Wonder if I could find a way to donate my unused 4mm British Railways collection to that club?

But yes.... It is a tragedy that this happened. You could donate all the money in the world and it'll never be the same as before. Hopefully it will come back better than before
