    Default What Have I Done?

    So this was just one of those random moments of creativity that hit me with an idea I had to follow through on.

    What I wonder is, will this make people pleased, or might it tick them off?

    I like it. Always loved the aesthetics of the high-hood diesels.

    Especially love running them at a show long-hood forward and making some railroad know-it-all's head explode

    So, the consensus is that you need to build this! Put a little "F" by the steps at the long hood end, so when the nutcases heads explode, you can point them at that! And laigh, bwahahahaha!

    No, it ain't steam, but from a former diesel locomotive technician, this would have been fun to play with!

    I'm pretty sure that's a narrow gauge locomotive. There isn't enough room between the wheels on meter-gauge or whatever rolling stock to fit traction motors large enough, so they add more axles so they can add more to make up the difference.

    My bet is that this is a secondhand locomotive that Conrail sold to a South American railroad, that was then converted to narrow gauge but hasn't been repainted yet.

    Upon closer inspection, I bet you're right.
    One thing I see is that you can see more of the end of the fuel tank than normal.
    Two if you look at the 45(?) behind ex Conrail unit, the truck side frames look different.
    Three, the rails do look narrower than US rails.
    Four, maybe I'm seeing things, but it almost looks like the ex-Conrail has four trucks, two under each end?

    It is. A former Conrail B36-7 #5024 sold to Brazil, gauge narrowed to 1000mm, reconfigured trucks, and placed in service in 2003.
