Totally agree, got to keep a spreadsheet with me at all times to avoid picking up duplicates. Not a fan of same numbers showing up in the same train. If I do end up with duplicate numbers I make sure they never show up on the same train.

On subject of pre-ordering, if it's something that I must really have I'll pre-order it in hopes that enough people want it too and it gets made but generally I'll wait for product release. Likely have missed out on somethings.

Can anyone actually read the numbers on an N scale car from 2 or 3 feet?

Makes no odds, it's the 'knowing' that counts
    Thanks, Tom

Expect nothing except the opposite of what you expect, and then expect it to be something other than that ! Then that's about what it will be

It's not just seeing or knowing Gordon.
If you are using a certain car forwarding system that relies on car numbers, if there are Dupes it can screw up the system a bit.
One reason I use car tabs, don't have to worry about the numbers.

I confess to total ignorance of operations and how they are run in N scale railroading!

Scale feet? Yeah, no problem. But never with my glasses on and then only after getting permission in writing from my opthalmologist.

Right on! I have 94 C&O coal hoppers, each with a unique number. Whether or not they can be seen, each has a different road number.
