Default Bachmann New Release EM1 and Class J

Bachmann just sent out a catalog for this year new releases. It contains reruns of these steam locos with sound, EM1 in October and the Class J in November.

Wonder if their mechanism has improved? Very new to this hobby but if I understand correctly Bachmann locomotives have not had the best running characteristics due to excessive tolerances on some components.

One of the em-1s that I bought at the last release would lock up one of its driver sets while going backwards. After sending it back to Bachmann, they couldn't fix it and offered me to trade it in on a different class engine or wait for the next release, IF, they were to run them again. Seeing how it ran fine forwards, I kept it and told them to put me on the exchange list for the next run. Mind you that was 3 years ago. I wonder if they still will honor it? I'll be giving them a call.

I'm not allowed to run the train, the whistle I can't blow. I'm not allowed to say how fast the Railroad Train can go.
I'm not allowed to shoot off steam, nor even clang the bell. But let the damned Train jump the track, and see who catches hell!

I purchased the EM1 when the first run came out. I installed an ESU LoKsound decoder and it has run perfectly since. I agree completely with Spookshows review. Although I'm not a big fan of Economy Sound, I will probably purchase another and convert to ESU.

Figures. I have a J that I was going to fix this weekend. Maybe I'll fix it anyway and have two now.

I added sound to both long ago. Saved myself some money!
