Thank you very much for your response.

I've connected the Arduino with a 6' USB cable so I'll try the first option (centrally locating) first and then the second option. The present sketch uses CMRI and an RS485 library (the latter should allow multiple arduinos one one USB) but I am considering re-doing the sketch to use Geoff Bunza's direct JMRI connection in the hopes it may simplify the hardware requirements, especially with multiple Arduinos involved. I think, with central locating, I can get the servo cable length down to about a 7' max.

That should work. What your doing is a lot more complicated than mine. I'm just using the Arduino as a stand alone control for the servos. The cable length for the throw pins on mine are about to 15 feet long that go the the control panel that I'm in the process of getting mounted for the helix operator.

It actually didn't end up being as difficult as I thought it'd be. I basically followed this gent's blog:

And had to make a few changes as I'm using an Adafruit servo shield so that got added into the mix. When you say

The cable length for the throw pins on mine are about to 15 feet long
is that just for the servo controls? How long is your longest servo cable from the Arduino to the servo?

These cables just ground the pin to throw the servo. Natural state is ungrounded, and when grounded, the servo's move the degrees that in the sketch.

About 8 feet. When I get the control board finished and mounted, I'll take some photos and try to get the distance in it to give you a idea of what I'm doing.

    I'm using these shields UNO
