Great video! I like how you singled out the "foamers"... as if you're not one of 'em!

The Big Boy is an impressive engine, but when I hear it... to be honest, it underwhelms, and I gotta say that's because I am accustomed to the glorious sounds that the N&W J makes. Big Boy seems to sound a bit weak in comparison. Am I just being too much of a Roanoke fan boy?

    I am most certainly not!

There's a fine line between the two.
One widely accepted definition of "foamer" is one who 'foams at the mouth' when he sees a train.
In general, I think that most will agree that a foamer is a railfan who has gone "over the top."

Plus I wasn't standing ON THE TRACKS!
I was in the bed of my truck, off to the side of the road, not in anyone's viewfinder.
When it had gone past, we left for home, content that we have just seen a awesome piece of history preserved.
We didn't ly back out onto the road in hot pursuit just to get another shot.

Kind of agree with you, the whistle isn't AS throaty as the "J"
Plus this was out in Open Territory and not bouncing off any Hills and Hollers.

    Albert Lea, MN - Wednesday!

As far as it's sound, they are definitely taking it easy on the Big Boy. Note the diesel helper and it's such a short train. Listen to some old films of one in revenue service. You will hear the difference.

It looks like they got the piston rod steam leaks sorted out.

That I was Rod, wasn't sure I was going to make it, but a last minute change worked out.
I'm kind of surprised that they are not planning a trip through KC on this run?
    Maybe next the run?

Yeah it wasn't working very hard that's for sure.
The diesel was running, but it wasn't working very hard either.

Or "round the twist," as the Brits might say.

I can count at least seven former or active BNSF employees whom I personally know that have an interest in model railroading. None are foamers, or we at least don't act like foamers.
